wow... so manymovies nv watch before one... haha... actually i forgot to put the time line arh... haha... supposed to be from world war 2 to mordern day only... heh... but nvm lah... and no! star wars not conted!!! haha...what i'm searching for are actual war movies...not fictitious or fantasy war movies... heh...

i've watched it and i think its war scenes and the shooting and fighting scenes are usually pretty real, and you actually see alot of japs AND marines die, rather than just watching some hero walk through thousands of bullets. ..Originally posted by Stevenson101:How does windtalkers rate as a war movie?
another strong point is the scene where there is blue-on-blue (ie. army/marines shelling marines with arty fire) (not sure if it was the army or the marines that were shellin the marines). the strong emotion when they realise that they are getting whacked by their fellow US soldiers is clearly reflected.
however, as a movie to depict the role of the navajo code talkers, maybe its not so successful. movie seems focus more on the marine name joe rather than his navajo mate. though its commendable that the director did add in a touch of racism against the navajos from the caucasian soldiers as well. .. somehow makes it seem more real. . . i dunno
thats just my reflection of the movie. . . feel free to disagree. -

Forgot one very good one, called Dark Blue World. Czech production, about the plight of Czech pilots who escaped Nazi occupation and fought against the Nazis with the RAF in WWII but villified and jailed by the communists on their return home. Excellent flying scenes, great plot, script and directing. Among the finest war movies I've seen.
Saw the movie at a art-house cinema in Melbourne last year, have to look or special order the DVD in Singapore, but well worth the effort. Highly recommended -
Well, one that i have to mention isn't a movie, but a TV series. Anyone remember MASH? It was a comedy about a field hospital in the Korean War...
It was interesting to watch a bunch of anti-authority, anti-establishment people stuck in a war none of them wanted, but had to fulfil their duties as medics and doctors to save lives. On top of that, the characters and their antics were hilarious.... Like Clinger, the medic who is desperate to get out of the war and always wears dresses to convince everyone he's insane, and the poor CO who's more of a doctor than a soldier and hasn't the faintest idea how to run a military unit, and whose authority nobody seems to recognise.
On a more serious note, i think that Tora Tora Tora was one of the best war movies of all time. It was realistic, gripping, and informative at the same time.

Personal favs in no order of preference:
Full Metal Jacket (for its powerful symbolism)
Saving Pte Ryan (for realism and the shock factor)
Windtalkers (pretty shocking too)
Pearl Harbour (beautiful love story... very emotionally charged show)
Enemy at the Gates (highly strung show.... the tension of 2 snipers baiting each other out. Based on a true story)
Merry Christmas Mr Lawrance (gave rise to that beautifully haunting tune... was it called "Spirit of Asia"? u know later got ppl do into techno track one)
Blackhawk down (.... I read about this incident in 1994 while doing research into Elite forces back in 2000.... realised that not many people knew about it until they released the movie... it was yet another very sad incident. you could feel the desperation of the rangers and the DF people.)
Band of Brothers (was good too!)

About the film Patton, it is not totally accurate about the great man. I read from a biography written by Carlo D'Este about Patton that the show's military advisor happens to be Bradley and he hates Patton. That's why the film sort of make Patton look bad most of the time. The soldier slap is true but the Russian speech is quite fake becos he did mention Russians but BBC didn't note it down.

A bit about history without taking away 101st airborne's contribution to the Bulge.
Colonel Bruce Clarke's Combat command B of 7th Armoured division, 28th and 106th inf divisions defended St Vith for 8 days that averted disaster.
While the 1st, 2d and 99th inf divisions defense of Elsenborn Ridge frustrated the Germans long enough for the Allied commanders to rush reinforcements to the bulge.
82d airborne division also did their part of frustrating Germans.
I give the above to show that there are other divisions involved as well, other than 101st AB div. Now I felt like a history teacher.
