Aerial aces Red Arrows back in OctoberFamous UK air display team to perform here as part of tour to celebrate century of powered flight; admission will be free By David Boey
WORLD famous British aerobatic display team The Red Arrows looks set to dazzle Singapore in October with a display of close formation flying and other aerial stunts.
Defence industry sources said the nine-member team from Britain's Royal Air Force (RAF) is planning a 15- to 20-minute performance in their red Hawk jet trainers, as part of a world tour to mark the 100th anniversary of powered flight.
Two sites are being considered for the show. These are the sea off Bedok Jetty at the East Coast Park and the waters opposite the Changi International Exhibition and Convention Centre, where the aerial displays for the Asian Aerospace airshow are usually held.
The Red Arrows pilots fly the BAe Systems Hawk T. Mark 1, which is being used by the RAF as an advanced fast jet trainer. Each Hawk carries a bullet-shaped pod under its belly that enables the aircraft to emit red, white or blue smoke plumes during its aerobatics routine.
The team will be in Singapore from Oct 7 to 10. The show on Oct 8 will be postponed to Oct 9 in the event of bad weather.
This will be the team's third show in Singapore. During their maiden visit in July 1986, they stopped traffic along East Coast Parkway when they performed over Bedok Jetty.
During their second visit at Asian Aerospace '96, their high-speed aerial manoeuvres kept thousands spellbound.
The best news of all: Admission to the Red Arrows show in October will be free.
