Nicole Kidman was in Days of Thunder... i think Cruise said he "fell in lust" with her during the filming (his words!)

"Top Gun" featured several good songs too.
The manner in which Tom Cruise made his move at the Bar with an old hit - "You Never Close Your Eyes Anymore.... When I Kiss Your Lips...." (Righteous Brothers ?), and which got every hot blooded guys at the Bar to join in - is now imitated by Heineken Beer in its advertisement of beer bottle whistling "I Love You, Baby ... and if it's quite alright.... I need you baby..."
One good stunt will lead to some others. -

I recall a made-for-tv movie made a few years before TOP GUN. It's called Red Flag - The Ultimate Game...about the present air-to-air bloodsport at Nellis AFB. It featured F-4E Phantom II and F-5E Tiger II. The latter was the aggressor.

A few thing that i noted, for now-
- CO of carrier smoking in Combat Information Centre
- Bogey pilots wore more upgraded helmet, with strap-on visor (version that is in vogue now) while tomcat pilots wore vietnam war era stuff with in-built visor

And the Mig 28 is supposed to be armed with the Exocet (with range of 100 miles) although in the show all the F5Es were in "clean" configuration without any underwing or under fuelage loads. Only AAM on wingtip plyons.
So the CO shouldn't be too worried abou the MiGs coming in to within 100 miles from his carrier.
I wonder what the normal Squadron pilots on the carrier will feel, they are not good enough and the USN have to fly-in their ace pilots to deal with the MiG-28s. And even though the Top Guns grads only just arrived (24 hours latter Indian Occean), the airmen have time to paint the Pete Mitchell ("Maverick") under the canopy.
The Missle blast and the tracers look very amatuerish compared to comparable shows now ("Behind Enemy Lines") but during the 80s it was good enough. -
Oh yeah... I remembered that after that show in the late 80s, the sale of "Ray-Ban" sunglasses shot up.....
