Just the ladies' skirts, those inflated rubber flabby skirts at the bottom of the hovercraft are not bullet proof.Originally posted by foxtrout8:Is this something like the one u are toking abt?

I agree. Frankly, I dont think we are really into "forced-entry" operations. We just are not that well-equipped. We would need heavy ship-based gunfire suport, high tempo CAS, large heli numbers as well as a very robust C3 system to coordinate such a complicated maneuvre. At this moment, only US still prepares for "forced entries", developing the STOM (Ship To Objective Maneuvre) doctrine which requires the development of the AAAV, V-22 as well as the LPD-17 triad. Even then, they expect to sustain heavy losses from such a maneuvre. I think the max we can realistically do is storm a VERY lightly defended beach.Originally posted by foxtrout8:Sir , u dun have to picture it as Normandy. U wont have to land infront of masses of enemy if the strike aircrafts do a good job. Besides , CAS will be carry out at the same time when u land. It is alot abt coordination....
The skirts are made of kelvar.....not rubberOriginally posted by Atobe:Just the ladies' skirts, those inflated rubber flabby skirts at the bottom of the hovercraft are not bullet proof.
The inflated rubber skirting traps the air that is generated at such a high volume, that it creates the air cushion supporting the entire structure and load of the hovercraft.
Puncture this rubber skirts, at any section, and that section will be flabby, allowing the generated air to escape.
Armor plating hanging over the side could be an idea, but where will the armor plating go when the rubber flubbers are deflated during parked or shut-down position ?
That's true. Even when the brits, with their huge fleet back then, had to retake the malvinasOriginally posted by YourFather:I agree. Also the Brits landed on a section of beach that was far away from their final objective (Port Stanley). This section of beach was lightly defended and after suppressing the defenders with naval gunfire, Sp Forces, the Landing craft landed.Originally posted by IAF:That's true. Even when the brits, with their huge fleet back then, had to retake the malvinas, was forced to mobilize the entire fleet as well as a large number of merchant ships. If the argies had used air-to-air refueling to extend the range of their aircraft, the whole fleet would have been habis!
Anyway, naval artillery nowzadaze ain't what it used to be.
Yea....it's betterOriginally posted by IAF:Anyway, naval artillery nowzadaze ain't what it used to be.

From the article: Witnessing the exercise was like watching a scene from the classic war movie - Apocalypse Now. Two commando platoons did a simulated beach insertion by rappelling from a RSAF UH-1H and Super Puma helicopters and, another platoon took on the beach front through amphibious landing on Zodiac amphibious crafts. They were equipped with P-90 silencers and SAR-21 assault rifles.
May I know what's this P-90 silencer? Issit a silencer for SAR21, FN P90, or a silenced pistol?
I never see silencer for SAR21 before leh ...
