MP-5 range is abt 100m loh...service revolver is 50m. so if the incident is true, the shooting took place < 50m.Originally posted by Icemoon:Wah leow ... a firefight in the forest? I think the commandos can do a better job.
Wonder if they took proper cover and practised fire movement? Maybe they used MP5 and the range was too short? But the baddie used handgun right?
any PO who died while on duty will have state burial. prone-shoot, i think army fellas more used to it, snipers shoot prone too...Originally posted by eurofighter:If I remember correctly, all of them, including the gunman, were in a prone position. So it should be a headshot. ANyway that STAR guy received a full state burial.

sorry, not airborne assault, its heliborne....yes, they got do jumping so that they got the 'wings' mah...they do not do airborne, repeat, do not, during their operations. STAR's initial stage of maritime assault is learning from PCG's STS.Originally posted by koxinga:STAR has a full range of capabilities. From naval assault, combat swimming to airborne assault. A little known fact, STAR is jump-qualified.
They have their own organic naval assault abilities but they do partner the PCG's STS (Special Task Squadron) unit in some situations.![]()
sorry to smash ur dream...this is Singy, not a Yankee state. When the need arises, POs will still draw their arm....thats why we have POs shooting criminals as we have incidents like that as said in the newspaper. But then, if STAR is required, it obviously means that the situation is rather critical already.Originally posted by Icemoon:I am thinking hor, since STAR officers are police officers, do they follow the miranda law? (Opps, this is a US term, wonder Singapore got or not?)
I always have the impression SWAT people still can point their MP5 at you and negotiate, like in the SWAT game. However, if SOF point their MP5, then you 101% mati liao.
Haiz ... if STAR selection so siong, might as well join SOF. Haha ... the SOF guys have a bigger and more equipped armoury.![]()
My mistake then. Yes, they got their wings, it is now part of the training. I think it is for confidence building.Originally posted by chunyong:sorry, not airborne assault, its heliborne....yes, they got do jumping so that they got the 'wings' mah...they do not do airborne, repeat, do not, during their operations. You're mistaken la ... Zheng Chenggong wasn't the Admiral Zheng Ho. The latter was a muslim and a eunuch.Originally posted by koxinga:No. I am neither Muslim or a eunch![]()
STS teach them navigation niah...ha. Thats published in out Police Life Monthly sometime back.Originally posted by koxinga:My mistake then. Yes, they got their wings, it is now part of the training. I think it is for confidence building.
As for their martime assault role, it is abit more complicated than that. PCG's STS is not a elite unit like STAR in areas such as CQB. However, they are expert mariners. STAR's basic water competency (boat handling) is a result of joint training with STS.
STAR's maritime assault capabilities if i am correct, are imported overseas from expert trainers.![]()
