If i am not wrong the artillery is getting new mobile guns. They are referred to as the SPH,self-propelled howitzers. Anyone have any info and pictures on them?

If yes, look out for it in the trg. area. You might be lucky to spot it. I saw it >2years ago, during my ICT.

I am kinda confused.... are you guys talking about the Light-weight SPH (LWSPH) that ST is developing (the one with wheels), or something that looks like the tracked M109 Paladin (as implied by the topic of this thread) the US is using? I think they are refering to the "tracked" M109-type SPH that supposedly the SAF is developing or evaluating.
This is flowing around in the forum. I can't say whether it is true or not?
But make sense lor, since the Tom Huxley say we are developing a Armoured Div, then need "armoured" SPHs. -
why dont ST auto just make a chassis and put an FH2000 gun on it?

The unveiling of the bionix in 1996-97 took many many singaporeans (except those in the know) by surprise. i like mindef's deliberate 'aim then fire' approach...that they'll reveal any new capabilities when it is for certain that they are really good to go.

totally agreed with you. But still, the news will no doubt surprise you to a certain extent. For eg, I had seen the Bionix prototype as early as 1994/95 during my NS days. They (2 vehicles) were actually stationed within my camp compound (u know which one..), we used to see 'em going in the trg. area. We would even know they were coming just by judging by the engine niose they made, that was how familiar they had got to be. But I think the unveiling of the vehicle still took a lot of us by surprise that this was a locally developed one, rather than one made by the Europeans, etc. I remembered my first thought to myself was " No wonder I couldn't identify the damned turret!!!"
PS: There is another "new" vehicle in testing in the trg. area (that I am not able to tell, simply cos I couldn't identify it!) -
Hey "Yourfather", the one you saw, is it 39in cal or 52in cal. ? I justly couldn't recall what I saw >2years ago...

"as for the, Singaporean Singapore Technologies Kinetics corporation, the same company is to develop the 155mm self-propelled howitzer (LWSPH: Light Weight Self-Propelled Howitzer) applying prototype, in 2/26-3/1, it was held with "Asian Aerospace" it released. This is used even in the Singaporean troop, 155mm/39 gun FH-88 of the same company, or placing the towed artillery such as 155mm/52 gun FH2000 in the chassis of 4 wheels, those which it self-propels converts. In addition, also the version which is placed in the body of American make mechanized gun M109 is developed. As for the weight of LWSPH with 7,000kg, with C-130, CH-47 and CH-53 air transportable. "
