Woah.... end of an era for humanity man... Concorde is retired. heard some of these in the past. dun know if it is true. can anyone verify?
1. Concorde is somehow related to a supersonic bomber project (XB70?).
2. SIA was interested in concorde at one stage and there was even a concorde in SQ colours.
wonder if concorde can be converted for any military use? e.g. recce jet ala SR71. special strike ala B1 bomber?

Yep the concord by SIA was only half...the other half had BA colours....It was 1989 i think not too sure.It was a joint routeOriginally posted by Blockhead:Yups, i think that SIA operated a Concorde together with British Airways for a while back in 1980. The SIA colours were only on one side tho.

Yah , but the speed of that plane is unmatchable. The advantage of that corcorde is on her speed , not so much on her capacity...Originally posted by eurofighter:Hmm.. I dun think it's a good idea. It really can't carry that many troops compared to C-5 or C-17.
Nope......that is a myth....the concord is infact more quiet then the B707 and B737 i thinkOriginally posted by duotiga83:i read that due to noise problem that this procure is scrap![]()
Er???According to my article it is.......hmm...ill go find again to confirmOriginally posted by espanol_man:thanks for the pic, Blockhead! never thot i would get to see SQ colours on the concorde. as for troop carrying, i was watching BBC yesterday. The concorde can only carry 100-odd passengers, but they actually had design plans to build a 250-odd passenger version. even if the passenger capacity is limited, the adv is that concorde flies nearly 4 times faster than the other troop carriers which translate to better and faster rxn time.
SlowPoke: "the RAF once considered using militarised Concordes to carry and launch nuclear tipped cruise missiles.... sort of like the Brit version of the B-1"
yeah, heard of that before.... wonder what happened to that idea?
|-|05| : "concord is infact more quiet then the B707 and B737"
actually, concorde is only more quiet for the passengers inside. the external roar of the afterburning jet engines are still more noisy than normal jets. in addition, there is the sonic boom what the plane hits mach 1....
No matter what, i still think the US or brits should consider the military applications for the concorde before retiring it....
