Well I think an earlier manifestation of the Brandenburgs would be the storm troopers employed by Ludendorff in the 1918 Michaelmas offence. These are specially trained assault troops organised into assault companies who are meant to exploit gaps in the enemy lines and infiltrate as far as possible into the rear of the enemies. It was the first employment of infiltration in infantry tactics.Originally posted by BillyBong:Hope i spelt it right...
To anyone who thinks the Brits were the first to develop special forces....
The Germans beat them in this aspect as well...the brandenbergers were the first units trained and used in special missions to capture key bridgeheads, secure airfields, sow confusion among enemies at major crossroads and many more.
They epitomised the courage and efficiency of most german formations during the war: advanced weapons coupled with astute leadership and professional fighting men.
No.The Brandenburgs were trained like the SAS.However i only know that they were used in the War againest Russia.Somewhere north....near Leningrad i think. They blew up supply lines and other infastructure to piss off the RussiansOriginally posted by solaris:Well I think an earlier manifestation of the Brandenburgs would be the storm troopers employed by Ludendorff in the 1918 Michaelmas offence. Gross Deustcheland was choosen frm the SS right? As in SS political party members?Anyway they took over the LAH's duty of protacting hitler so they are considered elite i guessOriginally posted by solaris:helloJust a minor correction Gross Deustcheland is an army unit instead of a Waffen SS unit. Yep the Totenkopf were the concentration camp guards but hehehe the far cleaner is just relative
well the Gross Deustcheland was an elite formation in the Werhmacht just as the Panzer Lehr was. Some of the Werhmact elite units were given names just as the Waffen SS units. Nope the Gross Deustcheland members were not chosen from the SS. I agree with you that the 3rd SS was the dirtiest. Their members rotate between concentration camp duties and combat duties. Their commander was Theodore Eicke.Originally posted by |-|05|:Gross Deustcheland was choosen frm the SS right? As in SS political party members?Anyway they took over the LAH's duty of protacting hitler so they are considered elite i guessAnd the 3rd SS was the dirtest man....come on....look at their leader...(eranst something i beleive)that guy was a freaking monster!
Hahaha actually i just like it the way it was originally said =POriginally posted by solaris:I cannot help but comment on your quote : diplomacy without arms is like music without instruments. Then again arms without instruments is just like instruments playing awful music. Since you were quoting from Frederick II, you should have read about the conflict he had in trying to resolve between Bismarck his chancellor and Von Motlke his chief of staff
MM...yea but since they were the personal guards of hitler i assumed they were drawn frm the SS political side....like the LAH originally was.....Originally posted by solaris:well the Gross Deustcheland was an elite formation in the Werhmacht just as the Panzer Lehr was.
