Aren't officers in the Army supposed to lead the platoon in chiong sua? I heard ranks up to CPT have to go chiong if there's a war.Originally posted by SlowPoke:In the Army, the officers stays behind the line and orders the men to charge and fight the enemy....
In the Navy, the officers joins the men and set sail in ships to fight the enemy....
In the Airforce, the men stay behind in the safety of the airbases and lets the officers strap themselves into jets loaded with tons of fuel and explosives to fly into battle to fight the enemy....
I hope he chooses the "correct" service branch when that kid grows up![]()

But looking at the way Singapore trains our officers... i think even the junior officers will head to the front line and still sit behind while the men chiong.
I know band of brothers is just a show, but it is afterall a true account, and in the interviews the men have praised Winters because he was an officer who would lead and make the right decisions. But if u saw the show, i think SG officers would end up like Lieutenant Dyke.
junior officers (up to coy level) are trained to lead men to fight. staying behind to coordinate attacks are more the job of the bn and above level commanding and staff officers.Originally posted by kopiosatu:Aren't officers in the Army supposed to lead the platoon in chiong sua? of cos when the officer leads his men to fight, it doesnt mean he goes straight up and be the first to die. cos losing the leader or commander is the worst thing tt can happen. so he will make use of his assets - his sections or platoons. but o cos he mus be upfront to see and assess the situation to make the best decision on how to use his assets. but charging up using all his brawls and none of his brains will do all his men a great disservice and put their lives in more danger than if he coordinates the effort.
yeah, but there are times the officer has to lead, times where instead of saying 'you, move.' he has to say 'you, follow me'.Originally posted by wuming78:junior officers (up to coy level) are trained to lead men to fight. staying behind to coordinate attacks are more the job of the bn and above level commanding and staff officers.

yup yup. u can say tt.Originally posted by hoganrock:what if all his platoons/sections had been USED UP/TERMINATED, he will have to charge the enemies ALL by himself?

that means he has made wrong decisions, i'd prefer if he go chiong by himself and die.Originally posted by hoganrock:what if all his platoons/sections had been USED UP/TERMINATED, he will have to charge the enemies ALL by himself?
his stomach will absorb the impact of the roundsOriginally posted by hoganrock:then the FAT officers have to use his strength to fight?

Actually i hope most officers just die.![]()
oh perhaps i was not clear. the officer has to lead ALL the time if possible. but when there is a need to split his forces, den o cos he cant be everywhere. and sometimes he does haf to send his forces to do flanking, to charge, etc. tts where his subordinate cmdrs come in too. so all commanders haf to be competent.Originally posted by kopiosatu:yeah, but there are times the officer has to lead, times where instead of saying 'you, move.' he has to say 'you, follow me'.
And I'm sure there are only a handful in SG that can do that.
Anyway there are only a handful who can do it in any army anyway, but I don't think we can afford to have too little leaders who don't lead the way.

and i dunno y u say only a handful in SG can do tt, cos i haf personally met alot of very competent commanders - officers or specs. but u r rite - all officers (in fact all commanders) shud lead by example.
most probably i've been meeting very lousy leaders.Originally posted by wuming78:oh perhaps i was not clear. the officer has to lead ALL the time if possible. but when there is a need to split his forces, den o cos he cant be everywhere. and sometimes he does haf to send his forces to do flanking, to charge, etc. tts where his subordinate cmdrs come in too. so all commanders haf to be competent.
