i tot they were armed with exocet mm.40 i remember seeing a press release announcing the sale.Originally posted by tripwire:i mean.. there are such thingy called a VL harpoon... why bother putting 8 harpoon amidship when you could use VL harpoon from those 32 cell launcher?
I believe they are Chaff launchers too... question is why have 3? The one on top of the hanger, why not put a Phanlax Block IIB instead?Originally posted by eurofighter:I thought those launchers are chaff launchers?

Agree that they look like chaff launcher. But they seems to look quite sophisticated. The shape looks similar to the Chaff launchers on the MCV.Originally posted by Joe Black:I believe they are Chaff launchers too... question is why have 3? Ah, those chaff launchers are trainable - unlike the Mk 36 SRBOC used on the MGBs, the BAE Shield 3 used on the PVs and the Plessey Shield 9-barreled chaff launchers used onboard the MCVs which are fixed and static; the chaffs could be launched in the direction best suited to seduce the incoming missile(s) away.Originally posted by spencer99:Agree that they look like chaff launcher. however why have two in front and only one behind. typically the chaff will be directed to the rear of the ship. when attacked, you launch chaff, hope that the missle is attracted by the chaff and then move "away" from the chaff. Now you fire the chaff in front and then move midst the chaff cloud. Doesn't make sense!
Yeah. but having two in front and one behind doesn't seems to make sense right??Originally posted by Joe Black:Ah, those chaff launchers are trainable - unlike the Mk 36 SRBOC used on the MGBs, the BAE Shield 3 used on the PVs and the Plessey Shield 9-barreled chaff launchers used onboard the MCVs which are fixed and static; the chaffs could be launched in the direction best suited to seduce the incoming missile(s) away.
The chaff system depicted in the model looks like the Italian SCLAR decoy dispensers system.
Please post the video clip also. Thanks.Originally posted by Viper52:Heres some pics I shot of a mockup of the RSN's new frigates, which was displayed on the DCN booth at the International Maritime and Defence Exhibition (IMDEX) 2003, held at the Singapore Expo 11-15 Nov 2003. Pictures are arranged from bow to stern. Thanks to Horizon ModelTech for hosting the pics.
I've also shot a 40 sec video (~10MB) of the mockup from bow to stern. Will post a link if theres enough interest

After a second closer look, it seems like the chaff might not be SCLAR but SHIELD from the same Alenia Marconi Systems company.Originally posted by Joe Black:Ah, those chaff launchers are trainable - unlike the Mk 36 SRBOC used on the MGBs, the BAE Shield 3 used on the PVs and the Plessey Shield 9-barreled chaff launchers used onboard the MCVs which are fixed and static; the chaffs could be launched in the direction best suited to seduce the incoming missile(s) away.

It does, actually. i think they are arranged this way to optimise coverage, which means attacks from the side as well. Especially when u consider anti-ship missiles typically hit the side of a ship where the area is larger. So, if a missile approaches from the side, u'd swing them around, and u'd have two launchers to cover each side, since it's unlikely to be attacked by two missiles from both sides at the same time. By the same logic, since the target area from the rear isn't so large, i guess u would need only one to cover. I could be mistaken, of course.Originally posted by spencer99:however why have two in front and only one behind. typically the chaff will be directed to the rear of the ship. when attacked, you launch chaff, hope that the missle is attracted by the chaff and then move "away" from the chaff. Blast area, to allow proper venting of the booster motor back blast.Originally posted by spencer99:Please post the video clip also. Thanks.
Actually the Harpoon looks strange. The whole area around the harpoon launchers look so bare. Maybe there are plans to upgrade to a "supersonic" anti-ship missle system in the future
Laser,Originally posted by laser51088:and great pics! i live pretty close to the expo, but skipped the naval exhibition, went for body works
whens the exhibition until? and admission charges? is it open to public?

Heng@, get a camera with a marco function. I took those pics with my Nikon Coolpix E3100. If the camera's marco is good, you can take clear pics from distances as low as 5cm!Originally posted by HENG@:how do u take closeups without the pic getting all blury? i wanan learn so i can take closeups of my model cars
