Do you think there should be a sequel to DLS?
Any suggestions pse PM me.
btw, I'm putting together an info graphic for the Primus story. Will try to pack it with as much detail as possible.

IMO I think there' no point having another book..... it'll only update our aggressors (if any) on my area of Ops and military statistics.....
Among some argue it's all open domain but why let them have an easlier way to find these info? give them hell by hiding it into the vast space of the internet....

new edition, very likely...
not uncommon for authors to update their work and release a new edition if the demand for the first book is good...
but it won't be a totally different book lah... just a few new paragraphs, some new figures and maybe a new chapter and maybe a different conclusion...
but please lah... the world doesn't revolve around Sg... and given the controversy that book generated a few months ago, i think he would be a bit put off... -

My guess is that this isn't going to be old wine in a new bottle.
Mindef/SAF has been rather open lately and I would imagine that some portions have to be rewritten rather extensively, both to give value-added to readers and to tweak portions in the old edition that may have been off the mark.
I somehow doubt he would be "put off" by atmospherics from KL earlier this year.

First letters of the first five paras of the Primus story tomorrow are "T-C-T-T-C" -
I've seen 2 editions...the 1st edition out in 1998 i think(not to sure) and the current 2003 edition...quite alot of difference...most chapters got redone and updated.Overall i do not think there is a need to come out with a new book.Just keep updating it can liao.After all he has covered most of what is needed

I think it should be more on weapons specification than a update on DLC, becos most military nuts here & oversea who are interested in SG military have either own or read the previous edition.
But the problem wif this might actually give away too much info which might get you into trouble with the Govt.
Therefore , the update of the DLC will only be meaningful is at 5 years or more interval so that more info on the changes could be added for others to buy it again.
Another suggestion , put in pictures of weapons, or SAF training.
The old book lack that.
My two cents worth. -

At some point we need to know if our ABGs, 7 men sections, combined arms divisions, command structure right up to Joint Ops level actually works in war?!!!
I believe from news accounts, we integrated into a NZ company in East Timor! What does that say about our tactics??? Lack of confidence in their efficacy?
In OIF we sent a Charlie and an LST? There should be no question that we can operate our advanced platforms well and do it even in company level but put them together........how?
How many Wallabys does it take to be sure we can go to war and win?
I don't know about these simulations and I don't think you can rely on second hand info anymore.
Is SAF going to be a paper tiger only? Or will they play a more active role in peacekeeping with brigade size deployments?
All these information I would like to know just in case I have a son to do national service? Also I would like to know how tax dollars going to be spent EFFECTIVELY?
Maybe there's a white paper somewhere? OR David can enlightened us Singaporeans in the 2nd edition of DLC! -
i think the next edition of DLC should incorporate the new stuff that SAF got e.g. F16CD, NGF, SPH, CH47SDs, stealth frigate etc. but on a larger scale, how about adding a more detailed war-time scenario? how will SAF carry out its war fighting plans? pls dun include any MINDEF propaganda s**t cos they will always say that they will win... they are the best etc...
OR David can enlightened us Singaporeans in the 2nd edition of DLC!

For the record, there have been about five reprints but the text in all (ALL) editions has stayed the same.
Tim Huxley wrote the book, which explains why his name is on the cover. I've had nothing to do with the actual writing.... so one remains hopeful MSD will leave me alone.
Lot's has happened since the book was first published and new units like CBRE have been unveiled.
There's also the post 911 impact on the local security scene to consider (look at what happened to Jurong Island), plus how we might deal with an influx of refugees from Indonesia (been to St John's Island recently? go see the concertina fences there), plus the move towards IKC2 ("I can see too" ) and how this might affect the SAF's future force structure, inventory and doctrine development.
Several big ticket items are also pending. There's the much-discussed NFRP, and the delay in the helo selection for the Delta FFGs till March 2004 (after AA 2004, so more choppers for the flying display?) etc.
When you're next at the SAFTI MI library, do look for Jane's Intelligence Review issue April 1996. We co-wrote an article on the Singapore Army in that edition. I did that while I was a student in England. We're aware that the army orbat has changed somewhat since then and this reflects the pace of change in the SAF.
