yar... i think i also read the same... but does it make sense?
the LST are too small to block and can't move fast enuff to intercept... anyone care to explain

Probably the LSTs anchored and will be static blocks off the channel leading to the Naval base.
With the blockage, the usable channel will be smaller and will be more easy to defend. Just my 2 cents.
In the event that the blockage is no longer needed either move the LST off under their own power or hire a tug boat.
