How many Singaporean ethnic Chinese ever encounter a Singaporean ethnic Malay throughout the school years ?
How many Singaporean ethnic Chinese living in HDB flats would be personally involved in any social or communal activities with a Singapore ethnic Malay ?
There is a need to have a serious rethink of how the future generations of youngsters get to mix together. -
People usually have their own cliques and they might not be in harmony. So it is not only the racial issue factor.
Just like the A level people will sleep one side, the hokkien pengs will sleep one side. That was long ago. Just ask some old timers.

Racist thing in SAF is only anecdotal, not extensive la. Started by some insensitive and ignorant person and people of similar capacity start falling in line according to their race.
Geez man, I love Malay food, a lot. And I find the majority of Malays I meet in during my days are ok guys. There was only this sergeant during my BMT that caught me smoking and I had to stand there and listen to his crap and in the midst of it, I had racial thoughts. Thats about it. -

even though last time in the army, they allowed malays and chinese to mix together while having lunch and so on.. siting together.. but till now from what i see is still the same.. they have their group and chinese we have our group. they are too lazy and always sleep.. slack more then chinese.. thats why there is less malay officers.. if they can work hard they can even win us chinese in singapore.. but.. no comments.. if i would like to do business i will not do with a malay, i would rather do it with indians..

If that is the case, there are more Chinese who are just as unwilling to serve, or grudgingly serve NS, and there will be more Chinese who will 'eat snakes' then one can find Malays doing the same.
Those Malays who make it to OCS are quite a different lot from the other Malays (and like the Chinese, Indians and Eurasians) who remain as Other Ranks due to their lower education.
The young Malays that make it to OCS are as hardworking as the other Singaporean ethnic groups; and have shown their willingness to accept challenges to such an extent that they excel in their performance compared to Singaporeans of Chinese, Indian or Eurasian descent.
Let us not take a broad sweep of the brush from some individual incident. -

Plus, not forgetting, as we know, SAF policy on promotion people is not really fair to all ethnic groups, education level, etc, so we wont have better mix of capable people.
Problems with humans is the tendency to mark out differences between themselves and other groups, whether its nationality, race, religion, education, wealth, etc so the tendency to divide and demarcate is there.
On the other hand, the pasture is always greener than other side. I argued with a Malay friend. He respects the Chinese because of the drive and business minded approach to life, while I argue Malays are close knitted and open minded. In the end, we agreed the true meaning of "pasture is greener on the other side"
It boils down to individual personality and capability. You are who you are, not your citizenship, race, religion, or your lao bei has wads of notes in his pockets. -

No, I think it's just preference. Like Chinese would prefer to be around with people of their own race, not that they hate other races...

IMO, I find think the government's deployment of Malays is good...better be safe than sorry

I don't think racism exist much in the younger generations. The malays in the army works as hard as any chinese or indians. except for some individuals who loves to slack which happens to not only malays but chinese and indians. Chinese can get along well with malays in my company thus i do not think theres much racism in Singapore younger generations.

I certainly think that Malay and Chinese can get along well. But sadly its natural that in general, Malay prefers Malay companionship and the same goes to Chinese. Maybe because each race has their own language and therefore it's more fun to talk to. and about tastes and interests.
