A security officer in the Israeli Embassy in Beijing caught a group of Chinese technicians last month attempting to plant electronic eavesdropping devices in the embassy's telephone lines.
The officer spotted the technicians near a telephone switch box on the street near the embassy, according to the Ma'ariv newspaper.
The Chinese told the Israeli guard that they were from the Chinese Foreign Ministry information security department. The officer then asked the technicians to undo the work and leave.
The Chinese are known to conduct aggressive electronic eavesdropping operations on all foreign facilities in China.
This was not the first time the Chinese had tried to plant eavesdropping devices on telephone lines, which are used for encrypted communications as well as for open telephone calls.

I think the people in the foreign intelligence almost always do such things and i will not be surprised that Singapore do the same thing to the other countries. Its just that they are unlucky to be caught. Like they say in the SAF, you can do want but dun get caught.

The agents were spotted after the guard, Chow Ah Beng, spotted a group of men standing ouside the embassy grounds, throwing assorted beetles, cockroaches, ladybirds, and other insects into chinese embassy grounds. The agents were questioned and revealed themselves to be Mossad agents, whereupon they were asked to leave at once. -

BTW I believe Ah Beng appeared in papers once for peeping into a male toilet!

sigh... u can bug all you want and end up with a diplomatic incident if u're not careful, but nothing beats a traitor when it comes to gathering intel...
with bugs, u have to stay up all day and all night sifting through nonsense... u'll be lucky to get something for days, if not weeks of work... and u never know how long the bug stays in place.
hee... who knows... maybe the bug is to supplement the HUMINT they already have in place... the world of international espionage very "orh arm" one... just check out any tom clancey novel. they may not be 100% true, but we never know just how much of it is b/s... fact is stranger than fiction... -
Hey, you guys know abt the incident tat the US Ambassy in Russia (I think,so- if I've rem correctly..) was bugged with around 2000 bugs of all kinds (not the insect variety, but for intel purposes..).. They were uncovered. And some are so sophisticated, that until now, nobody knows how issit used for.. Correct me guys if Im wrong, cos its been some time since i saw this report..

The russians were real buggers, they constructed so many bug types way ahead of anythign the CIA had at that time, prehaps some of the more special ones where the bugs which did not required any battery, and hence almost impossible to detect and was activated by somebody shining a beam onto them from far off.

have u ever been to the Israeli Embassy here? Their security is very tight. Kenna tiao by their people when i left my car outside waiting for boss to get VISA.
