Should I Serve NS

I just spoke with Manpower, Immigration and Mindef. Here is the story, Mindef say cannot serve NS because I am not a PR or Citizen, Immigration say I cannot get PR status because I am not on Employment Pass. So they say I have to apply for Employment pass again. I applied last August but it was rejected and when I appeal it was rejected. They never gave a reason as to why it was rejected but I think it would be because I renounced without serving NS. The only way now is to be able to get PR status by at least working in Singapore for 5 years then I become eligible.
Aiyoh so sad man. Now I don't know what to do. i guess I will just have to reapply for Employment pass again. -

I guess you have to do everything a foreigner needs to do, to get a PR.. Tough luck. But anyway, I've seen lotsa 'old men' in army.. They too just came back from donkey years overseas studies trip, or some had been AWOL( Absent Without Official Leave), but later surrendered, served Detention Barracks, then went on to BMT, most went Civil Defence tho...
But after a certain age, u do not need to serve NS to gain citizenship..
But its pretty ironic do ya agree? —that seemingly tons of people wanna get out, while u have problems coming back?? Maybe its another pastels-are-greener-on-the-other-side-thingy. Anyway goodluck! -

Hey Hellfire,
There may be more opportunities around the world but SIngapore will always be home. I like being a chinese and like seeing chinese people around. You never feel like a minority in SIngapore. I am currently working and the only chinese in the office. Sometimes it can be a little intimidating. I have also always had Malysian friends thus stay close to my own people. I guess I also like the hustle and bustle of Singapore. Although things are not as affordable in SIngapore or the sales people at lucky plaza are rude asses who don't know how to sell. I will still always feel happier in Singapore.
Australia has been an eye opener but never home I guess. I am going to give it another try, nothing to lose anyway. -

I possible reason for being rejected is that the job you applied is paid less than S$2500.

i have some friendly advice to cure your home-sickness for Singapore. try staying in S'pore for a coupla weeks and have a feel of our employment prospects, business venture prospects and cost of living. i have a hunch you may not miss this island half as much as you do now. why not make your fortune in Australia first, gain more working experience there and you may get more bargaining power when getting a decent job in S'pore. you will be sought-after foreign talent by then. it will be too optimistic to give up your established career in Australia, hoping to find decent employment in, of all places, S'pore. here's a talk-cock idea i just thought of to share with you. you can find a wife to marry, either from Australia or whichever place and then time her pregnancy so that she gives birth when both of you are in S'pore on holiday. using your child's citizenship, it may be possible for you to get PR here. or if you can somehow find a S'porean girlfriend to marry, also can. maybe from online relationship through ICQ, SGforums etc. just some crappy suggestions. you can go find out more about the technical details. -
Hi there again, that is some good suggestions ahaha. I also have a feeling that I may have got rejected because the pay was less than $2500. I applied for a job with my fathers company, he wants me to take over but of course he cannot pay me director's income straight away. I may actually apply again with him paying me director's salary. He really wants me to continue on the business. However it is not IT so not sure about it but anyway IT really sux at the moment, everything going to India.
I find working in Singapore ok, worked there for a month before being rejected. I understand that the job market is bad there but I am willing to take pay cut and fight it out just to be there.
Seriously SIngaporeis not that bad, it is just very stressful but I think if you want to do your own business Singapore is a much better place simply because how consumers behave there. Australia I can be stuck working for someone forever and get no where, we as Chinese are still minorities there and no matter what the person who gets the promotion will be the ang mo. -
Since you have Oz passport, why cant you just go back to Spore and work? 1. Open an offshore BVI company in your name (one director enough)
2. Use the BVI company to open a bank account in Hong Kong
3. Work for your father as per normal but not under employee "name", merely as providing consultancy services to his company.
4. Collect your pay using your BVI company in Hong Kong.
5. When your visa is up, go to JB to get a renewal every 3 months.
6. This way, you dont pay Spore income tax, you dont pay HK income tax (because it is territorial based), you dont pay CPF.
Problem solved, everyone happy...one think lacking in most Sporean and ang moh is that you all dont know how to play dirty. -
Yeah I have no idea why, I have Aus passport but they rejected my application, maybe cos the pay was below $2500. But I do have a Uni degree. Manpower never gave me a reason so I don't know.

Business can play dirty but politics, cannot lah only way is to keep coming in and out of singaproe, I am sure immigration will get suspiscious after awhile -
Yo, confirmed. MoM will not grant EP to those whose pay is less than $2.5k. I had a vendor who tried to get in a project manager at > $2.5 and not approved. they don't care whether you have a degree.
