Viking submarines if no delays will come about only in 2015. They have just entered the part 2 of the project definition phase.......with decision to procure in 2006/2007. Only Denmark and Sweden are involve in this phase........will they phase in 'tropical Singapore requirements'?
I think even RSN may not even now know what is needed?
Challenger class may not be economical to operate till then. At least not all 4 hulls.
I'm guessing that some 'interim solution' involving the A17s could be broach by Kockums maybe a good move to commit RSN to Viking when it's ready. A 2 + 2 solution.
As I understand, the A17s' sonar suite and other systems have already been upgraded to A19 standard minus the AIP.
Two of them have Sterlings fitted and are now known as Sodermanland(spelling) class? Wonder what is to become of the other two?

The new RSS Singapore will definitely have AIP but is it all clear that they are going for the Stirling or maybe they will move towards the fuel cell technology which NUS seems to have come up with a cheaper version.
