i'm afraid that being away from the computer for sometime is going to make me lose some skills. -
erm... shouldnt you post this at the SAF forum... but anyway...
when you are a trainee, there wouldn't be much time tat you can read coz everything is just moving so fast that you have to keep pace and when the day ends, you'll be too tired to read...
but when you finished training... u should have ample time to read...

You always have some time.
Even in BMT, you can choose to have quick baths, call family/GF less, and instead of sleeping, read a book.
Your not in action the whole day... but... time is expensive in BMT. -
make it a pt to read e newspapers.

on exercise, about 97% of the time, we were just waiting in a tentage! -
when u r posted to unit, you will have LOTS of time to sleep, slack, nua, whatever if there's no outfield... u will sleep until you can't sleep much less read. but of course this depends on individual unit also...

Ok, there is definitely time to read when not out on exercise when u are finally in a combat unit, but when u are trainee, chances are there is not much time to read, because when BMT, chances are when u go back to bunk it is time to off the lights already.
And during trainee time, not much time, but there is time to read, however the most time to read occur when u are in unit, however definitely computer skills will decrease. because no chance to play around on computer during weekdays. -

I usually bring 3 books, some books i have bring includes Lord of the Rings. haha, because i am signaller trunk comms type, boring as hell when everything is set up and waiting for things to happen. sometime nothing happening the whole day and only companionship u get is your specs and one other man.
