Tekan sufferers........

past and now, again and again ..there are bound to me some "slackers" or the famous term "chao keng" in Ns who just cant accept that army life..They live day by day without ever not getting tekan..Their colleuages despise them, so do their officers..These group of people, though not necessarily bad in character are either too blur, suffering from personal issues or just plain lazy..But all of them in their own ways "rebel"..But on the other side, these guys do deserve a salute..Any obedient fool can just follow orders and be obedient, but it takes a clever to get around things..do u agree?.The real "thinking soldiers"..I mean in my personal opinions..these co called Chao"keng has better coginitive skills than their obedient counterparts and they do so in a perfectly controlled environment..And they are hardened psychologically by the 2-2.5 yrs of tekan..n fact the one who is rather psychologically strong than physically fit are the better ones....the mind wins over the body..These guys will survive the POW when captured in war, they are rebellious by nature..And army needs clever psychologically strong people..So chao kengs do not worry....Cheer up ..

but of course dont chao keng when people do your share of work. That will then be extreme. All NSF must helpch helpch each other. -

I don't care if this guy slack in base or not, but in war, he better be the one who is fighting as hard and as well as any other soldier, because everybody will need everybody when it comes to cruchtime.
If they intend to slack in war, don't expect any mercy from either side. There's no point dying for such a joker and his fleeing to the rear is a liability, I think the section should concentrate fire on him to eliminate the threat. -

BB, you're either myopic or you're a damned fool. If you want to bring up words like "cognitive" or "psychologically ", you've just done it in the worst way and worst place possible. You've missed the point entirely. The object here is to achieve the objective with the minimal effort, not to just "Chao Keng". If a person achieved the objective with minimal effort, he would receive the admiration rather than the resentment of his peers, because he will have saved them a load of trouble. However, if he did "Chao Keng" and incur the wrath of his peers, it would simply be because he was a slacker and took off without getting the job done, increasing the workload of everybody he left behind. That's not intelligent at all - that's just plain spineless.

not mypoint here...On a lighter note..If u see the other side of things..edpecially on this topic..I was doing a bit of analysis into the Chao keng...In army almost all chao keng i had come across are intelligent people..If u chao keng in a dumb manner...U will end up in DB of cos..I as referring to those who manage to slog along for 2.5 yrs till their ORD...I am sure there are some people who at times try to pt up a show of being competent but have something else in mind....Like sucking up to their superiors...But IMO the CHao keng is honest and makes his disinterest known... -

Let me put it this way. You're on the front lines. The intelligent thing to do is to make sure you're properly dug in, get your fields of fire and minefields properly set up, and then chill, knowing that you've created the safest (or least dangerous, at very least) environment for yourself. The chao keng soldier would go AWOL, putting himself at risk from both sides if he's caught. Is that intelligent? -

a chao keng cant even serve his NS in a proper way..n u seriously think tat this kinda person can survive in this world?
i must agree a person need to have high IQ to tackle the SAF systems..but he dun have EQ..
example:
Mr A is a chao keng
Mr B a boss of a company
Mr C is Mr A platoon mate
Mr A goes to Mr B company to interview for a position in the company...Mr A ORD cert n testimonial doesnt talk highly about him..Mr B have doubt about employing him..knowing that Mr C is his platoon mate so he call him up n ask him..
Mr A dun like NS but treat it very seriously n so complete with no regrets..

I believe when it comes to crunch time, despite all the initial views to the contary, people will do what they have to do. After all, it's easy to say that in the even of war you will flee Singapore, but how easy is that to do? Leave Changi Airport? Boat? Go to a land you cannot call home? Or worse, stand by and chao keng while your homes are plundered and your loved ones violated? And it's not a matter of if we can defend ourselves, but if we have the will to. We have more then a credible defence that can inflict terrible damage on any agressor, the onus of duty lies on you to do it.
What you cannot defend is not yours, and that applies wherever you go, there is no escaping it.
That is why my friend, unless I was told to do something evil, I would stay and defend my country, and prehaps shoot deserters like you, after all, why should my blood be spilled for people who are clearly taking advantage of me as a human shield, a speed bump for the enemy and who regards his duty as a liability. -
depends on what u term chao keng lor, u ever have officers who one min say i want those boxes in from this place all placed in this storeroom, then 2 hours later, say i want them back and another hour later say i want them in another place.
Finally everyone decide that the best is to not do it until the officers starts to scream at u because it will just be a waste of effort, no point working hard when your officers are not thinking at all -
I have weekends eaten away because they can't make up their mind on what they want, so i say, always run away from the jobs until the last minute. then go and do it, the officers never make up their mind before then anyway.

I am worried when I was in the army coz my impressions (i wss gullible ) of officers during BMT was like Wow!
During my NS stint in my unit, met many childish officers and warrant officers. Sometimes they behave like little kids wanting sweets, and we gotta tend to their whims and fancies. -
And most of the time they just care about themselves, for regulars especially, like me, i am the type of cannot pass IPPT type, so they want to improve result of unit, then make me do all kind of extra training, the amount of which is like crazy for an unfit person anyway. And they only do this when my IPPT window is open and these extra training stops as soon as my window closed.
As if they are sincere about training me to pass IPPT, they just want their record to look nice. In the end i just don't care about them, since when they want to burn my weekend, they have to burn theirs to stay back and train me, in the end it is I stay back, 1 officer will have to stay and train, then a sg will also need to stay.
Training fails anyway, i got reach IPPT gold in all events but fail my 2.4km. fail by 2 minutes or so.
anyway in the end it just ends with them tampering with the records to make me pass because i just can't pass. -

I dun think we can compare or group CK ppl into one... cos there are many reason why they CK......so it's a very subjective thing and there's no true answer to it...
Bollywoord beng and not entirely wrong, so is the rest of us.....there are just too many reasons for them to CK....
Some are just plain lazy, some hate the army and control, some are just irresponsible, some just want a simple easy army life (smart ones), some are physically unfit (a clerk in my unit wanted to go to OCS one), some are rebelous(hate officers/sergeants and pusposely give trouble) and some are just plain blur(low IQ, serious).
so there are so many reasons......
my 1cent worth of pointless opinion
