serious sia, what kind of "service" is this??? serve the nation by going for a all expense paid summer camp??? pls lah, that place look more lag then Oc...sorry i mean BS sia........wah lao, no outdoor cooking training, no MRE experience(which means eating MRE for ONE stright month...hehe, this i think super siong), no survival skill and worst still. NO COMBAT TRAINING! wah lao.....i pity thoose kids man, gotta disrupt study to go for summer camp........wah lao....... -
childish... your idea of 'tough' training sounds more like a boys scout camp.
by the way... only the americans call it "MRE" ... and eating it has nothing to do with "tough training" . eat combat ration for one month? u siao ah? the preservatives will pickle your liver and kidneys man...
if bad food = tough training, then SAF should ask cook-house cook shit with green beans liao...
they already say so many times: its NOT military training... its "Nation Building" .
give them a break lah... -

You'll make mistake for the first time. It takes some time to work out the bug.
Malaysia has some fine jungle survival instructor, the US Marines Expeditionary Unit has a refresher course in SERE in Malaysia.
There are many officers in the Malaysia armed forces who are Sandhurst and West Point graduate. -
we mus understand the intend of their ns b4 making comments. not all ns haf the aim of building the military in mind.

i think the malaysia limited ns is on the right track..though i wish it can be extended to all teens instead of thru' ballot.
if the govt did not come up with this, racial and religious polarisation will only worsen...In ns, young malays will be able to bond with their chinese and indian counterparts that they normally wouldn't do at all in school. Though it's only 3 mths, it's a start. -

The worst part of their NS is the fact it is not universal. Those that served their NS will come to resent those that did not. Given the incidence of corruption in Malaysia (not a bash on the country, just an observation), they will need to worry even more about "white horses" and "draft dodgers". The resentment caused in the US over the selective draft during the Vietnam war, especially when influential or rich families could get their kids out of the draft, is a warning. Our own controversy over WHs is another. A national obligation like NS must be universal and fair in its application. Otherwise it will create even more division, and no one will take it seriously, defeating its entire purpose. It may help that their NS is relatively short and undemanding, with little risk of injury or death (unlike the Vietnam war, and to an extent our own NS), but even that small price to pay will burn if others don't need to pay it.

Stand down, snk86. Besides, there are quite a few people here would would probably tell you that Tekong BMT is a relative holiday, and the 6-month SEAL course is only what overseas trainees (e.g. the guys that SOF sends over) get.
The point here is that it's not NS as per the Singapore definition. Don't go playing the laughing game. There's bigger dogs than you in this here yard - just check out the vocations thread. -

we can be here mocking at their system. but wat matters most is the ppl.
looking at the attitudes of alot of our nsf when they go thru ns, i wont dare to start luffing at our neighbour. -

There's no point for them doing military NS as they will probably end up training some militants who will thank the govt. for the skills learned and promptly use them against them, Malaysia is not like Singapore...
