Should have done this a while back, but better late than never. Use this thread to post anything and everything about AA2004. News, comments, opinions, information, arrange get togethers (i.e. anything about the show).

Flying Display -
Just went to the showsite, and caught a sneak of the Flying Display today, so will post some comments here about what I saw.
Surya Kiran Display Team - These guys are actually pretty good! Formation holding was pretty tight, and the routine, while standard, was pulled off with quite a degree of panache. As for their planes, imagine Strikemasters painted up in Red Arrows lookalike colours!
B-1 - One low speed low power setting flyby. A letdown compared to 2002. But I understand she didn't fly yesterday and possibly her routine is not approved yet. Was supposed to fly again this (Monday) afternoon but didn't stay to see. Will have to see its routine again when the show starts.
Mirage 2000 - Not really noticed this before, but this baby can ROLL!
F-111C - Nice and loud display, a little higher than what I'm used to seeing a Pig fly at. Heres a teaser: Keep a lookout for the Dump and Burn! My friends and I were surprised to see the Pig do it at AA (then again Pigs can fly already)??!! Although a vantage point at Tekong will be better to see this.
IAI/EADS Eagle UAV - Was it powered? Its flyby sounded like that of a glider to me. Compared to the noisy Scouts and Searchers I'm used to

PS. Photographers wishing for good shots of the flying display, don't bother. Sun angle is crap at the display times, you'll get nothing but shadows. Save the film for the static display and use the space freed up by leaving the telephoto lens at home for extra water (lots of it!) -
I am going on Wednesday cause I expect alot of people on the openning day. Got trade passes.
Only have canon A40 to take picture. What is the best setting for outdoor photos? I remember last time I use SLR EOS 50, very lousy.

What problem did you have with the EOS 50? I'm using my oldie but goodie FM2 and EOS500 -

I have got pixs from the past 2 days of AA2004. But I am not too sure how to post it. Can someone out there advise?
A little aside, for those going, bring sunblock and shades. It has been incredible hot that I am as red as a lobster after 2 days of being out in the sun.
The static display is a letdown. Compared to previous years, the number of aircraft is considerably lesser. In addition, for those who want to go to West Apron to view the large aircraft are not allowed to bring their cameras along.
For those seeking to collect brochures, I have been collecting them since 1994 and I find there is not really much offered this time around. Moreover, they are much less willing to offer little goodies.
Give time allowance when coming in by bus and especially taxi. The security procedure has been tightened considerably. And I have been stopped occasionally by security personnel to check my pass. At the entrance, they sometimes check IC with pass. Hence, it may not be a good idea to trade passes less someone gets into trouble. -

went AA2004 todae. dad managed to wrangle trade invites for me n a fren.
it was nice to be away from screaming kids and horrific crowds for once.
the flying display IMO was better than AA2002's, i got some pics of the F-111C's dump and burn. will upload asap... -

Just went today.... Wah kao, my officer took his time (we were going there together, I on off, he 'officially' representing SAF), ended up missing the flying display
.
Learnt a couple of interesting things, one being that ST was the partner in the Skyshield system. Never heard of that before. Interesting system for airfield air defence.... could that be a viable substitute for the Rapier system? Hmmm...
Also, I had the shock of my life seeing a disconnected bronco's TWO portions moving together. Now that was shocking, and bloody hilarious, looking at the two parts zooming about on the field...
