whats sandflies and "commando mosquitoes" ?

i saw one mean bugger in sarimbun before.. its about 4cm in length, orange-y in color. a few of my friends got stung, major swelling sia and sibei painful.
anyone seen something similar

its not particularly painful or itchy, but thats the problem! u won't know its there and all the while, its making a buffet of your body! -

Arh..... leeches.... i didn't encounter any of them during my days at brunei. If you don't have a lighter, use vinegar, a few drops and the leech should drop off.
During my Ex. Lancer, in the navigation ex., i was stung by a yellow hairy caterpillar. I was brushing some leaves away when i got stung on my right wrist when i though it was some thorns that got me. Holding my hand in that position, i turned around to see no thorns but upon a closer inspection, i see the caterpillar. My right hand starts to swell as the days goes by, the swell was from my fingertips to near my elbow. I had the biggest right fist in my coy at that time. A friend of mine got a swollen ear, he was called "shun feng er" for that period of time.
Something to add, i was bitten by fireants too. It feels like a sharp pain kind of burn. The pain will stay for sometime making me thinking that it's still biting but it wasn't.
Glad singapore don't have fireants. -

Hahaha. Used to take the repellent, squeeze onto tissue paper, roll it and smolder it to make it work like a mosquito coil. Works pretty okay...
Hate the mozzies, esp when they are like buzzing around when we are lying in wait. Prone down waiting for ppl to come, end up swatting mozzies. Camou scarves does WONDERS. Esp if u know how to use it. Cover it over ur face, ears to make it like a curtain around ur face. U still can see, but others can't see u. Imp[roves ur concealment and keeps mozzies from ur face basically. -

I was bitten by sandflies during one night. Tatical remedy to remove leeches is just to rub salt on them, and they will release. Not sure who carries vinegar.
Have been bitten by ticks and a type of flea in Singapore, they usually are around where there are mammals like cats and dogs. -
