I heard of murmurs it will be deployed with the Rapid Deployment Force aka 21st Div, but just want to know whether they are implementing it or just design one for export interests...Originally posted by tankee1981:Maybe it will be bought for our Rapid Defence Force. I think we have a division dedicated to this RDF.![]()
ya just like lightstrike once they unhook it can be driven off..save alot of time and more fire power compare to air lifting the 120mm mortar...Originally posted by CX:"nice" doesn't begin to describe... its heli-portable, fast, 155mm x 39 calibre gun, perfect shoot and scoot capabilities...
imagine... troops heli-inserting into enemy's territory can have artillery support almost immediate... we can already drop men and light strike vehicles... this is the missing link man!
no need to wait for freaking slow towed artillery to get in range, don't need to wait for armour, which is still road bound at any rate...
just secure your LZ and your arty comes by heli in no time flat... in the form of the small, fast, cute LWSPH...
so far, there's been no public domain info available confirming or denying whether saf is getting this platform... i sure hope they do...
I tot we have the Giat LG-1 Mk 1 105mm light guns for arty support for the RDF, even though they are not as powerful as well as LR as the LWSPH, but they will do the job as you described above.Originally posted by CX:"nice" doesn't begin to describe... its heli-portable, fast, 155mm x 39 calibre gun, perfect shoot and scoot capabilities...

Probably the 105mm guns still need to be towed into position by a vehicle. That's the difference.Originally posted by gary1910:I tot we have the Giat LG-1 Mk 1 105mm light guns for arty support for the RDF, even though they are not as powerful as well as LR as the LWSPH, but they will do the job as you described above.
No , the purpose that SAF get this 105mm light guns is becos it could be helo-borne like the UK105mm light guns that were used very successfully during the Falkland war.Originally posted by eurofighter:Probably the 105mm guns still need to be towed into position by a vehicle. That is why they in the RDF of SAF.
The LWSPH weight abt 7000kg whereas the LG1 only weight 1520kg.
The LWSPH need to be carried by a large Helo like the Chinook and for LG1 , you only need a medium Helo like the Super Puma to do the job.
I think I have already explain why SAF bought this gun, if it only to be towed to operate it , then what is the point of having it???Originally posted by CX:LWSPH is self propelled. max speed is 50km/h or something... don't remember... the pdf brochure can be downloaded off the ST-kinetics web page.
thats the point... the LG 1 still needs to be towed... i don't fancy pushing the LG 1 away after firing it to avoid counter-artillery fire...
there's a great need for speed in the modern battlefield... u wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a bunch of Astros rockets if u don't siam fast...

Read abt MY's Astros 2 MLRS system from this thread:Originally posted by Jazzswing:Since we're in a topic about artillery..what model of MLRS does Malaysia posess and how effective are their counter-battery capabilities? Sources say they have little 155mm guns in their inventory.

well, it that's true, then its no wonder why SAF hasn't announced anything about wanting to buy it...Originally posted by gary1910:According to Janes , this gun could be ready to fire within 30 sec after been deployed by a Helo and ready to be towed away by a light 4x4 in 30 sec or helo borne again .
Click the link for the brochure from the manufacturer,it claim to be below 30sec and even could operate by 3 crews in extreme condition.Originally posted by CX:well, it that's true, then its no wonder why SAF hasn't announced anything about wanting to buy it...
but 30 sec would be under the best conditions right? well... not familiar with the procedures that allows it to be towed away so fast...
anyway, the LWSPH is a damn nice design

The UK has developed the 155mm UFH (Ultra Lightweight Howitzer), which has since been selected by the US Marines as the (X)M777. Total weight is about 4tons, thus can be airlifted by heavy helos, CH53, CH-47Chinook. Same category as our LWSPH, but need to be towed by trucks instead.Originally posted by gary1910:Click the link for the brochure from the manufacturer,it claim to be below 30sec and even could operate by 3 crews in extreme condition.
As for the LWSPH, it will give longer range and the benefits of all standard 155mm round(cargo round ?) but it strategic mobility is limited to heavy lift helos and C-130.
LW 155mm gun is not only from SG , I think UK is developing something similar but I doubt it could be carried by a medium helo.
