There's one particular guy from my platoon who's now a Ranger cadre and also an instructor in PTW. Back when we were serving together, he was a really nice guy, kind of goofy, really. I actually caught up with him a few weeks ago, after not having seen him for about 11 years, and he's still the same. Later, my friend's cousin from to 2001 batch said that this guy was a real saidst and I said, "What? He's the nicest guy on the planet!", but I later checked up with the other guys from my company, and they told me that when the drowning incident happened, everybody breathed a sigh of relief that this guy was out of town at the time - he would have been the first to be blamed.
Nathan, I said dark alley, not BACK alley!Originally posted by NathanG5:oic..haha..u noe wat..

The thing is, though, while I've met numerous SOF troopers who've failed the Ranger course, I've never met a Ranger who failed SOF training / selection.Originally posted by NathanG5:n other way round too..
i find it damn weird....
ROD'd in 1993, went for 2 reservist jumps and then packed off for Australia, so I wasn't assigned to a reservist company.Originally posted by lion02:yep, from 60th, 1 more low to go.

dun they have a road show for it?Originally posted by bcoy:SOF does not recruit civilians directly. You will have to be serving in the SAF for a year at least (if I remembered), PES A with perfect eyesight. Usually - they will come around with a list of names - to invite individuals to try out for selection. People from different units can try the selection - but most will come from combat units. (Commandos, Guards, etc)
2nd.Originally posted by Gedanken:Ah, fifth or second company then?
my 2ic was Fam, from sof, n yes, super-mario...Originally posted by Gedanken:All right! AGAINST ALL ODDS! Or Odds All gainst, as we used to say it.
Ooooh, pity you - you got Phillip as 2I/C and Mario as CSM.
Was PK Tan one of your instructors? He was my buddy.
Yeah, that's Junior all right - we both had the same first name and surname (a real coincidence that he took the top bunk and I got the bottom bunk - he also kept falling off the top bunk at night!Originally posted by lion02:my 2ic was Fam, from sof, n yes, super-mario...
PK Tan, the small guy? his section 2's. i'm in section 3, PL6A. nice guy to talk to, but no fun to mess with.
during ur time, when yr go field got rain or not.
during my bmt n bct, almost every out field rain. field-camp rain the whole week..bct ex. all-out also rain whole week .

got wet, then dry, then wet again....
so, we're also know, at that time, the water company.
it was first raymond ho, then melvin in bct, after raymond went for his ranger course. peter koh was the ps.Originally posted by Gedanken:Yeah, that's Junior all right - we both had the same first name and surname (a real coincidence that he took the top bunk and I got the bottom bunk - he also kept falling off the top bunk at night!), so whenever anybody rang for us, the COS' SOP question would be "Junior or Senior?".
So who'd you get as section commander? From my batch we had Eddie, Patrick, Melvin, the Peter brothers and the other Peter.
Yeah, Mario got a tough job when he inherited us - we'd been spoilt rotten by Dua Chiu, so he had big shoes (and gloves) to fill!
Hehe - yup, rain seems to be the second company tradition - Odds All Against! We got blamed for bringing the rain along on our Battalion Ex in ROC!
"pak jiao" incident???Originally posted by Gedanken:Hmm - I don't know Raymond or Peter Koh (as PS, he'd be senior to me). As for Melvin, was that before or after the "pak jiao" incident? What about George and Chang - were they officers in 2 Coy?
It's a pity about George - he was slated to become Force commander. Latest word is that Chang is next in line to become Battalion CO.
oh.. the other chang.. i think he's the dy S3 if my not wrong, also met with an accident, not sure where he is now...Originally posted by Gedanken:Ah, no, that's the wrong Chang - you're talking about Chang Hock Woon, right? His older brother was CO before that. The Chang I'm talking about was from George's batch, so he would have been a PC when you enlisted.
Yeah, I've been meaning to drop by and see George since I got back from Oz, but I'm not sure if he's keen to receive visitors at the present time.
oh, that incident, during our bmt range, haha..Originally posted by Gedanken:The "pak jiao" incident: yeah, Melvin got bored at a range, so he shot a bird flying overhead - he got charged for that.
Yeah, Melvin always was a bit funny like that - Junior was similar, but he knew where the line was drawn.Originally posted by lion02:oh, that incident, during our bmt range, haha..
he is alway all-out of something funny....
during our bct topo training, he made the whole section to catch fish in a pond with our jungle hat. he later start a fire, cook n eat the fish, having the whole section doing all-round security.![]()
of course we all have a small bit on the fish..![]()
although wayang, but he knows his part well, espacially in the field, when come to serious training..
