a la Wolfenstein 3D style ? Every trooper will have an Alsatian to tag team against enemy. No need to bayonet him anymore!Originally posted by Fairyland:Has anyone studied the feasibility of incorporating war dogs like Mastiffs in the SAF infantry?
Maybe each company should have a dog platoon?
Fierce!
Saliva all over the place.
May kill one of our own before they see action....

Giving the dog some conformal camouflaged, internal heat dissipating but externally thermal sleeved body armour, attached Camelbag of water, fabric-based ballistic headgear, and adding all-consuming dogchow in his charge's c-rations, the dog is good to go!!!Originally posted by panzerjager:a la Wolfenstein 3D style ? Imagine having a 1:1 ratio of man and dog in a section. If, at the section commander's order, all dogs are to sic an enemy, wat ever will become of him other than lots of momentoes for the troopers

Example of magnetic explosive used in WW2 - anti-tank mine used by German panzergrenadiers against Russian T-34s when their foxholes were over-run (in the movie Stalingrad). Notice the fear in the Germans when they were about to be crushed by tank treads.Originally posted by spencer99:in WWII, the russians train dogs to run underneath the on-coming tanks. initially, the put some food underneath the tanks with it stationary, and the dog will run underneath to get food.
Then they move the tanks towards the dogs and reward the dogs when they manage to run underneath the tank. later they use sound effects like machine gun fire and explosives and train the dogs to ignore such sounds.
In operation, the dogs will have explosives with a magnetic fuse on top strapped on their backs. When the fuse touches metal (underneath the tank), it will explode. The most vulnerable part of the tank is its belly. Also the dog will offer a smaller target and can run faster then a person. Most importantly the dog will have no fear of gunfire because it is conditioned to completely ignore the sound and effects of gunfire... and will charge with full force on the tank. There you have it, the ultimate sucide bomber!
Imagine you are a panzer commander or driver and through the pericsope or visor you saw two or three of these dogs running towards you!
Apparently they perform welll enough for the surviving (unused) dogs to be part of the WW2 victory parade in Moscow!
there is one problem though... what if they are the duty platoon? how are they going to sweep the parade square, the drains and clear the rubbish?...
Maybe each company should have a dog platoon?
