Yo. Wondering if any of the forumers here are regulars in the SPF. Would like to find out what is working in the Police force like.
Is it an exciting and rewarding career?
What is typically done by junior police officers?
How is the posting determined, eg dog unit, STAR, or police post duties?
How long are you bonded for?
Also, if the eyesight is ABOVE 500 degrees for each eye, can I still apply? Would the application be even considered?
I am Currently Serving NS in a combat engineer unit. Pes B.
6 GCE O'level holder, but considering SPF after finishing a poly diploma after NS. -

ok, if u sign on right after u POP/POC from tracom during your police NS time, u sign on 5 yrs which includes ur 2.5 yrs NS. during the 1st 2.5 yrs, u will receive regular pay (without NS bonus) after 2.5 yrs u receive the NS bonus included in ur pay.
Typically, u will normally be posted to land divisions as NPCO for a year or so. posting varies, if u would like to be posted to a certain branch, pls let your NPC's CO/OO know so he can recommend u if that certain branch needs people.
For STAR, u just go for the 1 day 'screening', if u clear it, you go for a 12 day in-camp selection, if u clear it again u go for 4 mths of basic training and viola, u are a STAR officer. then u will go for other more specialised courses.
For PCG, obviously u need to go for a course to learn how to drive the boats etc...
If u sign on after your army NS, its 5 yrs with the NS bonus included in all your pay packets.
As an NPCO, u will need to patrol, attend to cases and lodge report for complainants, there is also CSSP activities and etc....its running a 12 hr shift system....after a few weeks u will get the hang of it. -
for the eyesight thing, u can still try...no harm trying but obviously u will not qualify for STAR or SecCom even if u get into the SPF family.
If u have 2 'A's, 2 'AO's for ur A levels or 'complete' Poly Cert or equilvalent, ur starting rank is Sgt, else is Corporal. -
Eh, I am not aiming for STAR la. Hehe. Maybe dog unit. LOL.
Btw, I am already 1yr ++ into NS liao. I am considering like a long term job after poly. So was wondering what the SPF has to offer lor.
Beside the starting rank of sgt as a dip holder, what are the career advancement opportunities like? Like what is the rank that Junior Police Officers go up to? How fast is it on the average?
Any difference in pay between CNB and SPF, or difference in rank advancement. -
typically 3 yrs promote once if u never get 'demerit' point...of cos can get promoted earlier or later, all depends on ur performance. but 1 thing is sure, u surely get promoted at least once in the 5 yrs...
CNB i not so sure but i think their vocational allowance is higher so maybe u can take home 100+ more every month ? not so sure...but STAR is 650...provided u pass the shooting and physical test conducted every 2-3 mths.
ask ur police friends, they will tell u more, here cannot say too much lah....after listening then u consider loh.. -
Hi, i am interested in a career with the police force as well. Can anyone tell me what is the max age in their intake requirement. i am 24 this yr.
Here is my little profile: Going to grad this year from uni and was trained as a Sect comd in Sispec ASLC in my nsf days.

there's no age limit for signing on with spf, just that retiremetn age is 55.
anyway, anyone noes abt the rank advancement for senior officers? once every 3 yrs too? -

just play lots of time crisis and u'll get lots experience
no la just joking, actually the best thing to do is at night like 1 am you go kick open your siblings bedroom door and say "freeze this is the police!! drop your weapons on the floor and put your hands above your head!! now slowly turn around!!!" -

Do they actually limit rank advancement of female police officers?
Anyway, I am trying to find out what the police force is like as a career starting as a JPO. I am well aware of the beauracracy bullshit in the army, but is it the same in the police force? Or more? -

The highest is, Senior Assistant Comissioner of Police. Which is already uber big. Dun be suprised, there are many females holding on to high ranks such as DSPs (most common) and ASPs. -
its seems that saf places a lot of emphasis on scholarship, i mean, scholars tend to be promoted faster than the other regulars. Its the same in army wad... appointment is critical.
BUT
Rank is used to collect pay! More rank... more Pay. So yeah, rank is still VERY impt.
