SAF follows Israeli concept of externally mounted MGs - swivelling pivots so that if MG pintle is located in the middle of turret, the Commander or Gunner/Loader can also use the weaponOriginally posted by Viper52:To add on, you can find FN MAGs from the Academy Merkava and M113 Zelda kits. Might have to change the weapon mount a little though.
Is this the one?Originally posted by eurofighter:It's a FN MAG.
Yup, thats the one...more popularly known as simply the GPMG in the SAFOriginally posted by golani_bde:Is this the one?

Thanks!
Also just realised that SAF is now using 230-rd ammo box instead of the usual 250-rd box for GPMG, as locally suppliedOriginally posted by Viper52:Yup, thats the one...more popularly known as simply the GPMG in the SAF
Many thanks guys! Would be most grateful if anyone can send me or post a photo showing clearly the MG mount. Getting this info is tough for me, currently living abroad. my email is [email protected]Originally posted by panzerjager:Also just realised that SAF is now using 230-rd ammo box instead of the usual 250-rd box for GPMG, as locally supplied
Apologies for having used the phrase loosely. It is only partly scratch building using the heller kit as a base. Now I have to hunt for a FN mag.Originally posted by Jazzswing:Woah, how does one make a model from scratch...![]()
Can you also do a diorama of the SM1 throwing track because the sprocket wheel fell off after the vehicle reached the summit of a low knolll....Then show the tank crew going to look for it....Originally posted by golani_bde:Hi,
As I am scratch building an AMX13 SM1, could anyone tell me what make is the machine gun that is being mounted on the tank?
Best regards,
Golani
Erhh...??? Is this what happened to you? :-) I just got back into scale modelling recently after a long break and having served as a combat medic, I am not too familiar with our armour toys.Originally posted by panzerjager:Can you also do a diorama of the SM1 throwing track because the sprocket wheel fell off after the vehicle reached the summit of a low knolll....Then show the tank crew going to look for it....
No, am not from armour, but heard such an incident from a fren from 41st regimentOriginally posted by golani_bde:Erhh...??? Also, which Golani Brigade are you inspired from ? The ones that dug in their Centurions on reverse slopes to shoot at exposed front bottoms of oncoming Syrian tanks when they crossed over the crests of the knolls ?Originally posted by golani_bde:Erhh...??? When you do model the SM1, do try to do some battle-damage to replicate the resultant effects of enraged enemy infantry fire against the vehicle/turret frontal in bid to knock out the optics, e.g. periscopes and gunner's sight.Originally posted by panzerjager:No, am not from armour, but heard such an incident from a fren from 41st regiment
That's quite an idea. BTW, does Singapore's AMX13 have the item circled in red?Originally posted by panzerjager:When you do model the SM1, do try to do some battle-damage to replicate the resultant effects of enraged enemy infantry fire against the vehicle/turret frontal in bid to knock out the optics, e.g. periscopes and gunner's sight.
Some feedbacks from Sri Lankan army that whenever their vehicles were contacted by LTTE, e.g BMPs, all the fittings were found blown/shorn off by the heavy MG fire to the front. Which is why BMP driver periscopes had a raised ballistic slope ahead in the glacis to lessen such effects - ricochet against the plating instead of directly knocking the driver blind. They always want to go in with as much ammo as they could in such engagements - protection was not their main concern. All they wished was to empty their guns on enemy area before going in. Proves how fearful the LTTE was.
Yes, it has. Thats a nice space for us to put the tow cable and misc.Originally posted by golani_bde:That's quite an idea. BTW, does Singapore's AMX13 have the item circled in red?
Great! Thanks.Originally posted by ditzy:Yes, it has. Thats a nice space for us to put the tow cable and misc.
Before you have that, SAF will have to allow Tamiya or equivalent to come into armour camp to take photos...you think that will happen ?Originally posted by zenden9:Got SAF IFV Bronix model?
Oh one more thing, camo net.Originally posted by golani_bde:Great! Thanks.
No need SAF camp, just go STK's or CIS manufacturing plant can liao.Originally posted by panzerjager:Before you have that, SAF will have to allow Tamiya or equivalent to come into armour camp to take photos...you think that will happen ?
No go, still need to get clearance from MSD. Besides, SM1 is no longer in production/retrofit programme. BIONIX has completed delivery. Probably the only SM1 specimen that is cleared without entering armour camp is the old AMX13 (not even SM1 config) standing for "Once Armour Always Armour" outside armour complex.Originally posted by ditzy:No need SAF camp, just go STK's or CIS manufacturing plant can liao.
May be they can try the SAF open days and snap all they want. That's what I would do if I'm in Sinagpore. Is the Armour coffee table book any good?Originally posted by panzerjager:No go, still need to get clearance from MSD. Besides, SM1 is no longer in production/retrofit programme. There is no cleared BIONIX sample for anyone to see anytime.
