one very important abt being in the military..dont assume..Originally posted by SpecOps87:Hi Guys, well read that in every countries' military there is bound to be a Combat Survival Course or the US call it Survial,Evansion,Resistance and Escape course conducted primarily for their SpecOps ,Recce troops etc...Well,under Geneva Convention, all the captors can ask from the POWS is his Name,D.O.B,Unit and Rank if I'm not wrong. But as usual,it is never convenient to follow the Geneva Convention. So the implementation of such a course.
I have not gone through such a course before. But I have read books and done research on such topics. It appears that the captors are using ways and means to break your mental will, and make you divulge vital military intel. And during the course, instructors will push the trainess to the limits. So,I myself feel that I am capable of overcoming and not tell them anything. As I am a believer that the Mind is stronger then the abuse given physically. And thus, they will use the good cop,bad cop technique. And that it is important that the captors realise that they are not going to win.So adopting a "You can have my body, but never my soul" kind of approach.
Anyone has ever gone through CSC?Please shed some light. As this is really a very interesting topic.
you would be in the knowledge of the astonishing news last year, when several SAF personnel were injured, and one of them killed, in the course of Combat Survival Training - the local variant to CSC as u mentioned. the course has since been suspended, and i don't think it has been reinstated.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Hi Guys, well read that in every countries' military there is bound to be a Combat Survival Course or the US call it Survial,Evansion,Resistance and Escape course conducted primarily for their SpecOps ,Recce troops etc...Well,under Geneva Convention, all the captors can ask from the POWS is his Name,D.O.B,Unit and Rank if I'm not wrong. But as usual,it is never convenient to follow the Geneva Convention. So the implementation of such a course.

mind over matter is not going to be of any use if your instructors were drunk n hell-bent on having fun with u.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Hi Guys, well read that in every countries' military there is bound to be a Combat Survival Course or the US call it Survial,Evansion,Resistance and Escape course conducted primarily for their SpecOps ,Recce troops etc...Well,under Geneva Convention, all the captors can ask from the POWS is his Name,D.O.B,Unit and Rank if I'm not wrong. But as usual,it is never convenient to follow the Geneva Convention. So the implementation of such a course.

yeah..and the trg mentality is wat can jeopardise the whole trg. so i am for the policy tt if the trg objectives are not met, even if the trg was supposed to last for 3 days, it should well stretch until the objectives are met.Originally posted by CX:haha...heng... always the party pooper...
but seriously, its not really saying anything new when pple say its "mind over matter" ...
NSFs over the years, in all combat vocations have all been told that, experienced it at some points in time and even imparted it to their men or peers at others...
but its one thing to say it in training, but quite another to experience it for real... cos we all know, that no matter how siong and how crummy the training is, IT EVENTUALLY ENDS... 3 days, 5 days, one week, two weeks...
the mind has that time-frame to cling on to... they can lock u up in a dark room to deprive u of your senses, but u will STILL know that it's training and it will eventually end.
if u're POW-ed in a real war situation, seriously... how long can u sustain mind-over-matter?
in training, the WORST that can happen is that u end up dead.
in war, death might be the BEST thing that can happen to u if u're captured...
sometimes, looking back, we'd think how the F**k did we get thru that shit...Originally posted by CX:haha...heng... always the party pooper...

to be honest nobody much knows this, but those instructors weren't just wayyyyy off the SOP... they were also drinking b4 they started the tortures and sure as hell they were drunk. beer cans all over the ground...Originally posted by CX:haha...heng... always the party pooper...

i was talking in general terms about trg. as for CST, i am sure there are certain trg objectives (of wich "torture until they break" is not one). my point is simple - trainees shouldnt think tt they can slack and skive through trg cos at the end of the day, it will end after the x number of days scheduled for it. if they do not meet the trg requirements and stds, then either they will have to do it again, or the trg shud be extended. o cos the stds should be reasonable and realistic - this i have confidence with our trg prog.Originally posted by HENG@:u mean torture them till they break???
*incredulous look*
but thats what happens man... for the signals course, they have to perform well during their exercises, otherwise, weekends will be burnt for remedial training and lessons.Originally posted by wuming78:i was talking in general terms about trg. as for CST, i am sure there are certain trg objectives (of wich "torture until they break" is not one). my point is simple - trainees shouldnt think tt they can slack and skive through trg cos at the end of the day, it will end after the x number of days scheduled for it. if they do not meet the trg requirements and stds, then either they will have to do it again, or the trg shud be extended. o cos the stds should be reasonable and realistic - this i have confidence with our trg prog.
if there is remedial lor. if there isnt then how?Originally posted by HENG@:but thats what happens man... for the signals course, they have to perform well during their exercises, otherwise, weekends will be burnt for remedial training and lessons.
but there is wad. its standard SOP to "encourage" everyone to do their best.Originally posted by wuming78:if there is remedial lor. if there isnt then how?
either way, i have no part. my weekends are mine, so there.Originally posted by CX:aiya burnt weekend got not much effect one lah... it just demoralises the trainees, messes up their psyche and wears them out so that the following week is even WORSE than the week before...
after u get the drift that your weekend is gonna kena burn ANYWAY cos nothing u do is EVER good enough, u'll just wayang and do the bare minimum liao...
the thing is, good, solid training can at least prepare u so u know at least how to do your job when u need to... but ultimately, how to stay alive while doing it is something u learn while "on the job" ...
how abt i give u long weekend?Originally posted by HENG@:either way, i have no part. my weekends are mine, so there.
u can try but u can't 'cause i have backing outside that ensures that i never ever will get any long weekends.Originally posted by NathanG5:how abt i give u long weekend?![]()
???Originally posted by HENG@:u can try but u can't 'cause i have backing outside that ensures that i never ever will get any long weekends.
hm.. true. i guess if one is to choose between extending trg and burning wkend, one would choose the former more than the latter.Originally posted by CX:aiya burnt weekend got not much effect one lah... it just demoralises the trainees, messes up their psyche and wears them out so that the following week is even WORSE than the week before...
