such technology will probably exist lah, but we probably wont get to see them... unless there an AI technology arm race. prehaps den we might get to see them.

think there have sth like dat albeit smaller scale and used in the hyeavy duty industrial applications
It's basically a heavy exoskeleton, with a human operator, ammo feed, and 2 big cannons.
They were visually excellent, but poorly designed. Look! No protection for the ammo feed or the operator.
Look at the Animatrix for a example of a better designed APU. Which can fly, and encases the operator in armor. -

anyway, the question in the beginning is why won't people design them "gundam" type suits...
still the same result.. they can be wiped out simply with a missile...
tanks? if there are enough humvees with hellfires and tows which are out of the range of MBTs, tanks are useless... because it does not make economic sense to send out tanks when something cheap can easily wipe them out...
war these days is ALWAYS about economics...

mm...I think the APUs with the exoskeleton + Mounted MG guns..are more of a basic design..not very viable for combat due to the lack of armour but their design could be used in construction etc, E.g the role of Forklift or heavy duty construction.
Mobile suits would only be viable for combat once technology is able to better design the exoskeleton till it is able to move fast enough and flexible.
Those mobiles in Gundam..is of course..at least a century away. But..a design like the APU..i think with the current technology is more viable. -
