not sure how they shortlisted ur bf - do u think hes pilot material? anyway there r rumours tt they keep track of medical records of all the kids so as to identify all the potential pilots and approach them when they come of age. dunno how true this is.Originally posted by shirurinu:Hi all,
My bf just complete his poly studies and enlisting in 9 June(PTP)
He receive an invitation from the air force saying he's potential pilot material and invite him for the seminar on 22 may.
Q1) He was not even a youth flying club member. How did they determine if he's pilot material? Is it by random pick only or what?
Q2) He is enlisting soon. How would he be able to attend the interviews and such?
Q3) what are the chances of poly graduate becoming an air force pilot?
Q4) How many rounds of interview does he have to go through?
Yah all of them thought so. However what will become of you if you become a heli. pilot? My friends told me before that being a heli. pilot is the most useless one. Is that so?Originally posted by zenden9:I think becoming a RSAF pilot is not a bad thing,it is a long time career even u retire after RSAF,u still can work in commercial airline!
Then make sure u don't become a helo pilot!Originally posted by BMEngineer:Yah all of them thought so. However what will become of you if you become a heli. pilot? My friends told me before that being a heli. pilot is the most useless one. Is that so?
take note: you must be handsome in order to become a fighter pilot!!Originally posted by zenden9:Then make sure u don't become a helo pilot!

I doubt CMPB selection of potential candidates. I have astig. and yet they send me for the NDU selection. In the end I failed at the medical checkup stage when the medics in NDU discover that I actually have astig.Originally posted by Phoebeng:If your bf had gone for the pre NS medical checkup, CMPB would have the health info. That's how SAF tracks these potential RSAF pilots or Naval divers. The thing is, if he is into airplanes, by all means, apply. If he changes his mind before finishing OCS, just do something to get chopped aka rejected. If nothing had been changed since '98, 1 day of pilot = 1 day of NS, compare to the other vocations. That's a bargain. And there's of course the $$$ and reputation. Though the young pilot trainees nowadays seem more how lian than before. The education criteria is at least diploma.
Nah.... those flying the E2C and C130 are the condemn ones....Originally posted by BMEngineer:Yah all of them thought so. However what will become of you if you become a heli. pilot? My friends told me before that being a heli. pilot is the most useless one. Is that so?
An old A-6 pilot saying -"Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make history."Anyone watched "The Flight of The Intruder?"

John Mulius (as LT Jacob Lee Grafton, USN) mentioned this line...
not saying it was him whom it originated but that line did come from him..
Sorry for the wrong name of the actor (which has been corrected since then..)Originally posted by ferret69:I could be wrong but the line itself has been in use since WW2, probably started by USAAF B-17/B-24 bomber pilots.
this is absolutly untrue. whether you're a fighter, tanker or helo jockey, when you transfer over to the airlines, you will still have to be trained in the airline's aircraft just like everybody else. experience wise, it is not that important as the RSAF has a standard airgrading system where everyone flies their trainer aircraft before being streamed into fighter, multi-engine or helo.my friend's father once flew a super puma. now, he's a 777 captain.Originally posted by BMEngineer:Yah all of them thought so. i personally aspire to be a heli pilot. i once wanted to become a fighter pilot, but after flying r/c helis, i really do prefer helis over fixed wing anytime. flying at tree-top height at high speeds in an aircraft that is unbelievably unstable and hard to fly is an absolute rush and challenge. just flying it is hard enough, don't even say fighting in it efficiently.
at 1st i tot is mass send... then i c the letter i threw it away immediately... haha...Originally posted by shirurinu:Hi all,
