Does SAF issue sidearm to the soldiers during actual combat?

well....if u bring it out, can ganna tan-kup for possession of dangerous objects etc...then will ganna warning after everything else, not worth the trouble. rather u get a pocket tool like Wave, like dat its more convincing when u say u bring into camp for outfield purposes...

I got all my knifes from Sngarms in chinatown.
Strangely I just happen to alway go there when they have very good offers or tag along some crazy friends who are ex-navy diver or commandos, who alway buy by bulk, so end up buy super cheap. Their price is rather horrible most of the time.
Actually now is a very good time to buy, as think some thai folks have taken over that Sngarm shop and are desperate to sell !!! So if you want to buy hang around and look at the knifes and they will offer to give good discount. Remember bargain real hard, those knife are mark up a lot, I am sure you can get super good deal. -

The funny thing is, the best knife I had, beat all other combat knife, is nothing but a below $30 make in japan foldable fish knife from NTUC ! haha too bad, can never find it been sold again. -

someone i know brought a timberline gentleman's folder out on a fishing trip. his father in law borrowed the knife to scale a fish, which was ok, but after scaling it, he threw the knife into the pail with the seawater and fish...

use Leatherman ones....u won't regret. or u can consider Gerber also....
if u all are getting the SngArms knives for outfield use then i think the knifes are bought for the wrong reason...those knives are normally bought for display purposes niah despite wat they claim blahblahblah...u got to see what the US have to offer and the price difference....heh.
further more, u add the extra few kgs just for 1 purpose to cut or stab people in combat, why not get a multitool, u get so much more functions and with a fraction of the weight. u will be amazed how quality the blades are in Wave.
SngArms things very expensive, a pair of Hatch gloves they can sell at 100+ bucks, that about 2.5x the cost price...mark up too much liao lah. Hatch makes the best gloves for 'whatever purpose u want to use it for'...including nomex/kevlar material etc...Damascus also buay pai lah...Blackhawk also coming to snatch business but their pattern imitate Hatch ones and are much much much more expensive. -
Well,i bet there is instances where-by there are other firearms being discharged while in the holster too.And Heng,pls be reminded that the Glock has a safety mechanism where-by if it is dropped it won't be discharged,many handguns in the market do not have such a feature.And besides,with so many agencies the world over using it,even those units in Isreal who chiong suan as their bread and butter swear by it.So wat do you say?And also,what crap holster they using.Must be those crappy ones.Holsters by Bianchi,Forbus which is designed to be both Safe and yet quick and lastly the Ghost holsters are all proven to be very tactical.
The reason that people get shot is very simple,they are not familiar with the equipment they are using and also they refuse to heed the good ol' caution of KEEPING THEIR FARKING FINGERS OUT OF THE TRIGGER GUARD!!!Thats why they themselves get shot.Just because I'm not serving NS does not mean I noe nuts.I am posting this thread as I am in the SRA and I have used the Glock along with a holster and the last time I checked there ain't hole where they shouldn't be on my body.As an amateur IPSC shooter,I can say H&K,Colt 1911s and Glocks are one of the safest and most FARK-PROOF handguns on the market.
The reason for posting this thread is also,because I'm curious that if lets say in a firefight,a trooper's weapon jammed or is empty.And is confronted by an enemy,the trooper at least has a chance to rely on a seconday weapon to bear on the enemy.Instead of holding an empty weapon and when shot,found with an empty weapon.How would you feel if that happened to you?
Next,on the deviation to knives on this thread,there is a couple of them I'm interested in but can't find the specs and pics of it on the net,hopefully you guys can help.The list are: Emerson CQC6,Mad Dog SWAT and Frequent Flyer.The Frequent Flyer is actually a knife with a composite material blade.And it cannot be detected when passed through metal detectors at the airport.The only 2 things which can reveal it is an x-ray scan and a through body-search.

its different from reading some military books..shooting different kinda guns..does not make u a soldier..
n btw M-16 also have a safety mechanism..u try dropping the weapon on the floor loaded with a live round(im not sure if its the same thing u are toking abt)
n yea..we are toking abt secondary weapon now..nobody is gona deny youf a secondary weapon..but SAF wont issue u any..u have to get your own stuff..n since Singapore dun sell firearms..so another alternative is to buy knife or watever edge weapon..
if u got no money to buy any knife or parang..u can use SAF issue ET stick n plate..also very effective..

Eh Nathan,ppl haven't serve NS does not mean noe nuts.Anyway,if you sae liddis,you hinting that ppl in this forum all also noe nuts ritez?Please be objective lorz...dun take it too personal.You have to weigh the pros and cons.And besides,I didn't insist,force,SAF to issue handguns what.And btw,the M-16 will fire off with if you drop it when it is loaded with a live round in the chamber.Even when on safe.Not all weapons are built to be safe.And to be frank,the fact remains that a safe holster is not a speed holster and a speed holster is not a safe holster.Although companies try to constantly come up with newer and better holsters to suit the different purposes.
And I have to place emphasis on this,be familiar with the equipment you are handling.Be so familiar with it that when the time comes for you to use it,its an automatic and natural reaction. -

anyways, regarding the knives u mentioned, let me do a search. i have a friend who was going to buy the mad dog atak, dunno in e end he got buy or not. i can tell u this though, i've held e mad dog atak in my hand b4. feels too light somehow. -

Yep totally agree, the Sngarm is too expensive
and a lot of them for decoration. I just brought 3 knifes, I have some crazy friends who are ex-navy divers and ex-commandos, so I tag along their bulk orders got super discounts for 2 of them. Also at one time sngarm tag some knife prices wrongly, I was real mean, I got a knife at low as $70 after that they sell at over $250. I only go for those that are practical and good blades, I need them, as I used to love exploring jungles with my crazy friends till I got injuired and took me out of action totally.
Sigh ! now they are just for decoration only. -

heres what i found. but are u sure its the CQC6? i've only found CQC7 series on emerson's website, the CQC6 might be a custom one-off production model.
and the mad dog swat... dun seem to exist even on mad dog's site.

i have heard more on glock than other firearms dat cause the thigh-shot thingy. glock is a good pistol, dat cannot be denied, dats why CTC chose it to beta test their products.
holsters wise, Safariland still rules....at least in Singapore. Uncle Mikes too, we do buy their Side-Kick series belts. Safariland have more patents on their holsters than other brands too. -

Pistols are more accurate generally and deployment is much faster. there is so much to learn in pistol shooting....its not just point and shoot. there is the horse riding stance and lots more. there is also a newly developed stance that u position the pistol very close to your eyes compared to normal posture, u use it when in super confined places. works good and the posture 'protects' your vital organs too.Originally posted by zenden9:Have u fire P226(SAF pistol) before? You are totally wrong, if someone really shoot a pistol before, he/she will know how hard it is to shoot it, and hit the target.
For shooting a rifle, we have what we call 3 point contact. You have the bulk on shoulder, 2 hands on rifle, so 3 point contact, the weight is well distributed and center of gravity is ok. The recoil is assorbed mainly by the shoulder.
Now come the shoot of pistols. We have what we call 2 point contact. You have 2 hands on the pistol. the center of gravity is in fact pulling you forward. The pistol fully loaded with 12 to 13 rounds is close to 1 kg. Holding it steady, is not as easy as it seem. Even is the pistol is zero, forsight and hindsight which is nearer to each other, so much margin for error, a slight alightment error will end up the bullet flying way out. The recoil is much stronger, as it don't have a butt like a rifle which help absorb the recoil, recoil is totally assorb by your hands. A rifle which is have 3 point contact ( tripod ) super firm. A pistol is 2 point contact ( bipod) not as good. -

Yep fire the P226 before. Yep the first few round went totally wide as the recoil is more than I expected. Not sure about you, but I find the P226 slightly too big for my hand to be shooting it comfortably. I perfer the P229, more compact and comfortable in hand to shoot properly. -

pistols have a very heavy kick. even close range, intensive training is required to ensure hitting a target. if u try to fire a pistol at someone 10m away, and u never had any training for pistols before, u'd definately miss. -
