Prescription Combat Glasses?

I've seen in the recent years that the U.S. military issues its soldiers combat glasses (MAG-1 Combat Glasses) much like sports glasses. It interfaces with standard goggles, gas masks, and even diving goggles. Take a look:

I wonder if SAF should standard issue every soldier that wears glasses a pair of these, or something similar...this would cut down on the rate of spectacle breakage, and enhance performance...what do you guys think? -

wah shiok... SAF should implement also man...
normal glasses dun cut it out in the field... sweat makes it slide down your nose, even if u have the rear strap, its uncomfortable...
if u wear NVG, u're straining to see if u wear glasses. also, always kena dust and sand... and if u ever wipe the sand off your specs with your no.4, good luck... your lens gone already... scratches like u've never seen before.
the worse part is, go reservist u can see pple wear all sorts of specs there... gold frame, tinted lenses... wah lau... some damn shiny and non-tactical man... heh... but reservists... if SAF dun provide, u think i care? -
Yah, I think it might be ex at first, but if they apply the same SAF policy of replacing it at your own expense if you lose it the first time, it might convince many soldiers to look after it, so make it standard issue lor...I mean, dun tell you wanna bookout and impress gals along Orchard Rd with this kind of glasses meh? For sure I would leave this in camp man....and if ppl steal, they won't know what degree eyesight I have also...unless they bring to an optimetrist to have it replaced with their prescribed lenses.
I think this might help alleviate any shortages of Cdo recruits...say for example they ease restrictions to allow for bespectacled soldiers up to a certain degree of shortsightedness, they will get an increase to make up for losses that occur during course training...apparently, bespectacled U.S. Rangers also do jumps with these combat glasses. -
hmm....i just did a price conversion....each pair of MAG-1 glasses is about SGD$55...still not too ex... Maybe I should order a pair for biking...

i'd rather get the oakley water jacket with lens in place of shades looks more style....haha
then again for price it's pretty cheap and the SAF shld consider it. -

Hey Nathan, it seems that you can just order the frame like that. If you see clearly in the picture through the link again, you will see a plastic jig which is the cut-out for the lenses. This comes with the frame when you order it. Yah, I was also thinking about what would happen if it gets mixed up. A good way would be to have a narrow strip of cloth with your name sewn on it (like a miniature version of our nametag), and have it sewn on the straps facing inwards.
As for the varying degrees of eyesight, i believe lenses can be mass-produced...so what SAF can do is to have a mass production line in BMTCs or mono-intake units lor...in one corner, have someone measure the degree of shortsightedness and write it on the prescription to be passed to the recruit, then afterwards, move to another table where he passes the form to another guy who will fit the lenses on the frame. And at the last table, the recruit submit the form again for a spectacle nametag....how does this sound? -

n u are right abt mass producing non degree lenses..i think the only problem we have now is to how are we gona cut it to its suppose degree..
my solution is..just hire a few guys who knows how to do it..buy the cutting machine...
think it take quite fast to cut a lens right?

As for the cutting to prescribed degree, all lenses are already made in varying degrees...that's why our shortsightedness always fall on a round number...heh, I should know...I used to help out in an optician shop when i was a teenager. But the cutting of the lens to fit the frame is another thing...ur right, that one quite fast.
So all SAF has to do is to subcontract out to a big-time local supplier, and make it the local agent....make them cut a certain number of lenses of say.....1000 pieces each of 200 up till 500 degrees...and then make them go to Tekong for a day or so to fit the lenses to the frame...Hahaha!!!
Ur right...it will definately enhance movement....one thing though..I think this thing cannot touch SAF insect repellent, if not sure habis... -

makes more sense that way since its quite silly and expensive to keep stock. and there's no compelling hurry.
as long as the trainees get it within the first 2, 3 weeks of enlistment, its good enuff.
alternatively, it might actually make more sense if the units enforce it, since (a) not EVERYBODY is shortsighted, and (b) not everybody will end up in a combat vocation... why would a clerk need it? -
err...not really...if you see the pic again, you'll see that the sides are actually left open for ventilation, so the curvature of the lenses isn't so extreme. but i think the 2nd link one is nicer..
there are 2 version of it...SG-1 V-CUT(extra ventilation) n SG-1..
for all i know the V-CUT version u are unable to order prescription lenses..
i want to get the SG-1..but not sure if i can buy my own prescription lenses locally.. -
