Not necessarily out of date. On the procurement timeline, the NGF (Rafale, Typhoon, F-15) is next, perhaps within the next 5 years. At the end of the foreseeable line is the JSF. Singapore requires a fighter to replace the F-16s sometime within the next decade, thats where the JSF comes in.Originally posted by PeiLing:JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER (JSF)
Singapore just signed the Letter of Intent for Joint Strike Fighter Programme. Its such a new technology and by signing that letter, Singapore must be pouring in lots of $$$. Its designed for the US and UK and they get the first and prob second delivery... By the time Singapore gets one of those might be like more than 10 years later which is already out of date by that time...

even today, if we were flying ww2 spitfires and the enemy was flying ww1 biplanes, who's gonna have the edge?
sg is making plans for procuring the next generation fighter now... by the time others get it, we would have an established and integrated fleet liao...
and fighter aircraft shelf-life is more than 10 yrs lah... u just have to keep investing and upgrading it... just look at our F5 and A4SU.
it gets obsolete only if u spend a fortune buying something flashy and new, and then letting it rot in your hangar, which we DON'Tdo.
Pei ling all aircraft development take super long to develop it is common read the history of other aircrafts. In fact for the JSF it is consider faster already it will come out less than 10 yrs. Looking at the market, there is nothing in the market that in the class of JSF, so it is only nature Singapore is interested. Think singapore is interested in the VSTOL version alsoOriginally posted by PeiLing:JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER (JSF)
