Perhaps the SAF and Mindef should consider having an increase in budget to perhaps 8 billion dollars,a figure similar to the Israeli budget.Currently, our budget is 4 billion.
With an increased budget, more projects could be pursued and completed at a faster rate, such as the LALEE and NGD programs,as the SAF would be able to acquire them faster and in larger quantities.
Refurbishment and upgrade of facilities and training could proceed as well, such as upgrading our ADA systems and replacing them,as well as getting body armour for all troops.
Body armour:The SAF should implement a program to phase in body armour for all our troops.
I propose a lightweight body armour that protects the following body areas;the groin, torso, abdomen and back, knee joints and elbow joints. With advances in technology,we could have light Kevlar with hardened ceramic plates protecting these vital areas, resistant up to 7.62mm or 9mm perhaps?Currently, body armour seems only to protect against shrapnel.
Also, has anybody considered installing steel/titanium/aluminium plates in the soles of our boots,to protect against landmines or stakes from penetrating our feet.It would also make a good weapon to use in killing off enemies through application of force by the foot to the head or other vital parts.
The resulting inclusion would also serve to increase leg strength in troops who would be forces to use it as standard issue. It would a little extra weight, but when is excercise not good?

seriously,I would not want to carry around that much weight, but he does have a point.8 billion a year?I don't think we have any real need just yet for that sort of budget, unless we were in an arms race, and neither are we in the same situation as the Israelis.
Still, that money would probably be good in expanding the RSN and allowing us to protect the Malacca Straits and the South China Sea,as it seems the Indonesians and Malaysians can't be bothered to do so.
