Recently on australian TV they were showing a documentary on net-centric operations used by the Us in the afghan and iraq wars. It was called the perfect war. The US has a military style internet that shows a tactical map that has every unit postion with up to the second accuracy. Using this Brigade down to individual platoon commanders have the ability to coordinate with extreme efficiency as well as reduce friendly fire.
One story was where a US commander in afghanistan visited a afhan rebel camp. He asked the warlord for his cooperation but he was skeptical. So the commander asked if there any taliban bunkers in the vicinity. The warlord pointed at a far-away hill within sight. The us commnader ordered coordinates to be plugged into the map and within seconds... a bunker buster was dropped and oblietrated the bunker. Needless to say, the warloed was very impressed.
Another story was in downtown baghdad where we joined the cockpit of one of the new styker brigades. This stryker vehicles are outfitted with the latest sensors and armor. They interviewed the unit commander and he was practically surounded by a LCD screens displaying tactical information of all sorts. He coiuld see positions of all individual soldier tank or helicopter in the area. Like a mini war room. He was then boasting about eh capabilities and how they could coordinate very well blah blah. Thn suddenly a bomb exploded near the lead stryker vehicle. Nobody knew what to do and so everyone rushed out and detained everybod at the scence. The bombers were not caught. A lesson can be learnt here but i'd rather u draw ur own conclusions. Now that Singapore is pushing for this sort of capability I thought whis would be relevant. Here are some pics of the Styker vehicles
