Why do the RSAF choose the F15 over the Migs?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- United States must modernize its fighter jets to maintain air supremacy, a top Air Force general said Wednesday citing the success of advanced Russian-made jets against American planes in a recent exercise as signaling an erosion of its overwhelming advantage.
Gen. Hal Hornburg, head of U.S. Air Combat Command, said a U.S. air-to-air exercise with the Indian Air Force in February, in which India used Russian jets to defeat aging American F-15Cs, revealed "that we may not be as far ahead of the rest of the world as we once thought we were."
Defense experts in both the United States and Europe, however, have said it is unlikely that America -- with vast spending power and a major industrial base -- would lose its dominance in military technology.
U.S. defense officials have said Indian SU-30, Mig-27 and older MiG-21 jets, some armed with Russian-made AA-10 air-to-air missiles, got the best of F-15s based in Alaska in exercise "Cope India" high over northern India.
Hornburg said in an interview with military writers the air maneuvers emphasized his service's push for expensive, stealthy new F/A-22 "Raptors" being built by Lockheed Martin Corp. and F-35 Joint Strike Fighters being designed by Lockheed with input from allies.
He declined to discuss classified results of the exercise but said, "Something like Cope India, when we find that some of our advantages aren't as great as we thought they might be, leads me to remind people that we need to modernize our air-to-air capability."
Hornburg added, "We have been saying for a long time that we need newer fighters to do more things," and that the Indian exercise could be a "wake-up call" for Washington.
Russia's Sukhoi aviation works and the Moscow Air Production Organization company have been designing and building increasingly advanced fighters such as the MiG-29 in recent years. India, China and other countries are buying the warplanes -- some with contracts for co-production.
France and Sweden also build advanced combat planes and a consortium of four European countries, including Britain, are producing the Eurofighter "Typhoon" jet.
"I see air forces across the spectrum and across the world becoming better and better as each year passes. That just means that we have to do the same thing," said Hornburg.
"With air superiority, everything is possible. Without it, hardly anything's possible" he added. "People jump to the conclusion that it is ours just because we go. And that's blatantly false."

Because the Russia is going to pieces and soon there will be no spare parts available. Walau some more compare to F15C. Times have changed. Not a very fair article... perhaps some hidden agenda behind.
A fighter jet grounded because of the lack of parts is only a very expensive paper weight. -

US F-15
Eurofighter Typhoon
French Rafael or Rafale sumting... -
I think the exclamation is asking why the F15 is still in the final three evaluation stage whereas the SUs and MIGs are not.

Well, I think the Russian equipment suffers from a bad image in Singapore.
After years of siding with the west and treating Communists as enemies, it would be hard for many people inside and outside the military to look at Russian weapons without thinking: ENEMY.
Furthermore, Malaysia oso use dem leh...
Another thing about Russian equipment is that while the design is superb, the construction is sometimes shoddy. -

MiGs don't have superior technologies... most of the systems are obsolete.
By the way, it is harder to understand Russian languages.
Can MiGs be wired to accept NATO standardised weapons systems, like AIM-9s, GBUs, .....? -
US war craft's spare are easier to obtain from our friendly US and of cos more ppl using it and hence more competative. Russian's Sukhoi and MiG lesser users. But that does not meant their technology is worst off. Sukhoi proven themselves with their Flanker aka SU27 Cobra many years back. Newer gen of Fulcrum equipped with bigger fuel capacity. And the Flanker carrier base version too.
Russian are more of practical type, those important and need to pay attention with components they will do to it's best. But those 'not that critical' one like certain parts of the craft they just simply make it work and that is it.
Of cos, ever got ppl mentioned that some country facing spare part problem for their Russian's machine (how true, i dun know) But i m not surprise. With the down going situation things can happen at a snap. BUt for sure Russian technology is not inferior to our good friend. -
No doubt that there were many unfavorable reports on the availablility of the spare parts of russian planes. But I'm pretty sure that if we were to choose the russian planes, one of the conditions of the trade would be the transfer of technology for the spare parts, and I do not see why the russians would not agree to it, since they are so desperate in wanting to prove to the americans that their planes are superior enough to be acquired by a world-class air force.Originally posted by Official:US war craft's spare are easier to obtain from our friendly US and of cos more ppl using it and hence more competative. In which case, the ST and the DSO would have no problem in reproducing as well as upgrading these parts.
What I do not like about trading with the americans is the fact that they like to withhold advanced weapons and technology to the purchasers. These include allies such as Singapore. Although they promised that if we were ever threathened, they would release these weapons, how are we to know that they would keep their promises? Moreover, we have to get approval from the americans if we were to sell americans planes to a 3rd country. This is especially worrying since these new planes that we are acquiring are for interim use until the JSF comes into service in 10 years time. God knows what else they want from this resale.
