Because China is a nuclear armed power.

i think its gotta do with the SPY-1 radar too? the aegis system got a saturation point also, and saturation point is exactly what china can achieve, they might not have the most precise missiles, but they've got tonnes of the older stuff, launch and launch and they just MIGHT screw the aegis..., n without the aegis, its probably pretty open for manned ships and aircraft to whack the US navy liao...Originally posted by fkh:I don't think so.

If a scenario like this were to occur, in fact the US CBGs can be a big diversion from other allies which can knock out vital installations inside mainland China while she is focusing her top-end weaponry on the CBGs off her coastline.I wouldn't bet on US getting involved with China alone...Anyway, I think China wouldn't underestimate a CBG.Furthermore, in the event of a war, it's best hoped that cooler heads will prevail and not a single WMD is used by either side, for their response would be disastrous.
Here's just a brief look on a typical CBG.Note that China might be able to overpower the SPY-1 radar by saturation bombardment but that still leave them open to the air squadrons that will be in the air before the first PLA missile is inbound.These are just my views..Anyone care to comment?

airforce can attack from kadena base in okinawa as well? any other bases within range? middle east? (though that needs some agreement with other counries to enter their airspace)

prob some special forces can go in through the borders overland, or sent in by submarines? how porous their borders are though? no idea abt that too...
prob not an amphibous landing wif the marines till late in the war
but then again, prob no war with the chinese will break out... hopefully not, too much of economy is at stake, the world is pretty much dead if 2 of the largest economies spent itself warring... we'll be better off back in the stone age by the time they're done... -
Elmendorf AFB in Alaska can be utilised too..They base their B2 Spirits there occasionally and with refueling, we would have a three pronged air offensive from the south, south-east and north-east.Of course, the best would be all parties manage to solve all their differences.The toughest one is China, to get them to swallow their notion of "face" and accept that Taiwan has irrevocably been independant of them in every sense of the word save an official proclamation.

Anyway the US is going to sail 6 or 7 CBG to the reigon in a show of force....telling China to watch out -
B2s can be based anywhere as long they have proper protection from their elements , as their paint is made out of something quite radical but is sensitive to harsh elements but I may be wrong though.Elmendorf is quite a secure place tobase B2 as it is not near any hostile country per se.
