if wanna sign on , i dun tink can tink can choose which wat type u wan to be right ?
and also i wonder my course is relevant anot, its quality managmenrt engineering, not really mechanical,, -

A: All armoured vehicles. Not just tanks. Can include Bionix, M113 Ultra, maybe even the V200. Now that SAF has the Primus, I'm guessing Primus can also be considered "A" vehicle.
B: All unarmoured wheeled vehicles like 5 tonner, 7 tonner, Unimog, recce jeep, command jeep, landrover, GP car, recovery truck, etc. Emphasis on unarmoured 'cos the V200 is wheeled but is armoured so it wouldn't be considered "B".
C: I'm not too sure about this category but I believe it includes stuff like excavators, bulldozer, chain saw, trailers, tugboats, etc. Am quite sure about the last 4 I listed 'cos I was a "B" mech & I know a few "C" mech.
I believe bridging engineer vehicles e.g. Candace, almond, comet, etc MAY also fall under "C". -

they have technicians and engineers doing repairs and in assembly of armored fighting vehicles (AFV). Non uniformed and just like the private sector. -

I was from C mech. Did the VLBs. We did the generators, chainsaws and Forklifts as well. If you are signing on as a auto tech spec, dont go for C mech. Its the most tuang, as more and more stuff is being phased out/being sub-contracted out to be repaired. That means job security not so high.
Go for A or B better. -

Camps after camps vehicles maintenance are being contracted out to ST or Delgro or Indeco liao

A, B or C mech will NEVER be phased out. Imagine if there is war. You think the civilians in Indeco or other contractors will be dispatched to the war zone to help you repair your vehicles? No way!!
SAF will still need A, B & C mechs 'cos these are the ppl who will be outfield with the soldiers & they are the ones who will immediately rectify any problems. If got war, what you need are mechs on the spot to repair. You can't afford to call the contractor in with a tow truck. Its war you know.

If you bothered to read carefully, I dont think anybody here ever said that auto tech specs are ever going to be phased out. I just said that with more and more equipment's repair work (depot level) being sub-contracted out, the demand for auto tech specs (at least for C mechs) are going to be decreased. However, for normal maintenance and minor repairs, auto tech specs will always be needed. (we dont have so much money to contract out such low level jobs, because we always kena kotok by them )
Also, FYI, if a vehicle is really damaged in a war that requires repair such as those we that contract out to outside companies, we would not even bother to repair it unless its a REALLY critical vehicle. Come on lah, if it really damage until jialat jialat, by the time we finish repairing the damned vehicle, war also over already. You think about it. A vehicle heavily damaged in the front lines will not be able to be repaired with our HMTVs. It will probably need to be towed back to a workshop. By the time its repaired and sent back to the frontlines........ you get the point..........
