SOF,NDU,Police Star and Police Coast Guard Flying Fish.

Ok,basically I have got a question for all of you people here.When is the above specified units (SOF,NDU,Police Star and the Police Coast Guard Flying Fish) activated?
Example,during 1991 a SQ jet was being hijacked,SOF was activated to save the day.However during recent years,there have been several armed robberies,Police Star unit was activated.NDU seems to always be activated when there is a need for the searching of drowned victims etc...and Police Coast Guard Flying Fish unit is activated in the event of drug interdiction,piracy...they are like a SWAT team of the sea.
You see, the difference is sometimes pretty indistinguishable,so can some one please shed some light?Thanks...

flying fish ? u mean Special Task Squadron aka STS huh ? they are capable of vessel boarding. STAR also capable of wat STS can do but as STS is a sub-set of PCG, they can respond much faster loh...

well, STS was there to do their stuff when STAR wasn't formed yet, STAR was formed only 11 yrs ago and STS has a much longer history. cause SPF wanted to have their own teams of officer that are well trained
cause the world is changing,
now they have EDO, something to do with explosives or IED
they are learning and going to work hand in hand with the ARMY -

Maybe SAF can copy SPF, SPF got SPEAR (Special prisons emergency reaction somthing or other). According to official record, star was formed in 1993 and sts was only formed in 1995. most seaman are train in that.... not sure for MCV, MGB, but PV/APV does.. -

hmm am quite disturbed by specops87 nick. i mean, i think it's quite disrespectful to those guys who have actually BTDT(been there, done that).
i think you can't change your username but next time when finding a name for yourself, please have one that doesn't represent a unit or branch of the armed forces unless you've really earned it.

I used to think that STAR was deployed only for serious crimes, while SOF was deployed for terrorist related stuff. But on Crime Watch, it was said that STAR also handles terrorists. So if there's terrorist incident, who gets called & why? SOF? STAR?
Similarly for the sea. I used to think that STS was called in for serious crimes while NDU is called in for sea borne terrorist threats. But it was said that STS is also trained in counter terrorism. And to complicate matters, STAR also has a naval arm. So if there's a sea borne terrorist threat, who gets called & why? NDU? STS? STAR?
