eh you know ah during the inspection by the president, the guy escorting the president had something which seems to be a seal trident on his right breast. i don't know if this is true but i have met a seal-trained officer.. and i have seen another officer with the yellow ranger tab on his left shoulder. -

Let's not forget there are also badges earned from foreign courses. I've seen the Thai airborne badge & also the US army pathfinder badge. Not sure whether he got his budweiser liao, but when he was our S3 last time, he only got ranger tab.
The parade commander is LTC. He is also LTC. But the man in question (with the trident) is only major I think. -

to qualify for the basic airborne wing, you need five STATIC LINE jump, basically, you just jump and the chute will "automatically" open as a result of the line that attaches you to the plane. The freefall jump is like what you see sport jumpers do, and like mentioned by another poster, what you see the red lions do on national day. -

i agree with you on the red lions thing. every year is the same. 6 parachutists would jump out of a super puma and land somewhere on the stadium, and the 5 a-4s flying overhead in v formation, tailed by the f-16s.. haha it's boring already. what happened to all the armor and stuff like that.. would our armored mbts spoil the roads? please clarify..Originally posted by Icemoon:But the red lions just do normal freefall right? anyway, it's not about looking cool or what, it's about practicality.. halo/haho insertions are usually employed if you want to be inserted unseen.. i presume you know the advantages/disadvantages of the 2 so i won't bother explaining.. anyway, for ndp purposes, i think they freefall from 1500m cause if they were to go any higher, the crowd won't see them.
well that's just my 2 cents worth.. -
I waiting for the apache to make their appearance during NDP leh .. haha .. then they will be escort for the Singapore flag.
The red lions can jump from HALO height. Then at around 1500m the spectators will be told to look up. So it is still the same.
If that is too hard, they can wear HALO kit and jump from the puma .. haha -

First of all, they have done a HALO with oxygen mask before. It was done to the music from Mission Impossible.
Secondly, do you have any idea how much it costs (financially & in terms of logistics) to have a mobile column? That's why its only done once in a while. Besides, if you have it every year, some jokers will also complain that every year same thing.
But they should probably change the flypast a little. Maybe once in a while have five F-16s followed by three F5s rather than always A4 & F-16. Or maybe even have the crescent & 5 stars formation which they did one year.
My guess is the next mobile column will be when our Apache fleet is operational. Then we would have 2 new items i.e. Primus & Apache to display. And after that the next mobile column would probably be when our A4 replacements are operational.
