Any one in here ever make booby trap, early warning device kinda things, (not the trip flar which we used for ambush.) during your ex or you have kana some booby trap, early warning device from the ATEC OPFOR.
What I used to make are the trip smoke with thunder flash, spider web, jingle bell.
Because it ex and not real the deadly one are not made

If anyone can jury rig a motion sensor (militarized first of course) and direct the resultant enhanced pluse to an electric detonator...
FYI SAF doctrine is cannot set bobby traps without proper training. So many accidents due to improvised bobby traps which later become BOI cases. Any tampering with munitions is chargable offence (even if you just cut up a blank for the powder inside). SAF doctrine to use designed trigger (M193?) on fixed charges.
ALSO SOP for any suspect device, meaning anything not set by you (even other SAF unit) is to blow up 'in place', no heroics like digging up with bayonet etc. As Pioneer NCO we cannot lift our own AP mine once armed. Forget your 'splinter cell' etc shoot um up games. Real world people have lost an eye, fingers and even their lives with such nonsense.
By the way, we use a bayonet (if we do not have mine prodder) only to detect buried objects. The suspect object is then dug AROUND carefully to determine if it is a mine or anything else. It is NEVER lifted, in case of anti-disburtance device (below or attached) and then blown in place with a C4 charge. -

Used dummy grenades, smoke grenades ... though thunderflash kena banned sometime during my service so I never got the chance to make any improvised boody traps using those.
Trip smoke + trip flare is the best. Kena smoke liao anyhow run ... then kena fire
Wtf is spiderweb ? The one tie lots of com-cord/toggle rope all over the shop to entangle people ?

If you have gone through real solidering you's realize, stoopid to set booby traps just for defensive or ambush because U have to clear them after. We are not Rambos shoot everything then forget when put traps etc. In all defensive situations, SOP requires aggressive patrolling this will mean booby traps will hurt us more than hurt them.
Point of my post - You NEVER set booby traps (usually using improvised explosives etc) because of the inherent danger to both sides if not properly done. -

One time exerise, split into 2 teams, boody trap each other buildings. Thought all boody trap was all accounted for, discovered and dismantle by teams, till in midnight, dummy explosive blow in toilet when someone is using it. Opps someone forgot to account for that one.
All kena taka like hell !!!
Booby traps are now very advance, have seen light and sound triggering device, those are super cool, but extremely dangerous to setup. Some more advance one which can detect the change in air pressure in the room - cause by movement, opening of windows, doors. -
Had some training years ago in SCE in setting up booby traps using mechanical igniters (pull, pull-release edited: oops, just remembered it is called tension-release instead of pull release :-), pressure and pressure-release activated) and explosives.
However, had not used them back in my unit. -
Too advanced for military use? changes in air pressure may be too sensative. Any denotation elsewhere in building with resultant vibration and smoke could cause chain reaction. FIBUA is more rough and ready rather than james bond type trap setting (stuff of movies only).Originally posted by storywolf:.. Even the pressure release and tension relase trigger had some many false starts that in real live ended up avoiding it.
Easier to block stairwell with con wire and make trap door access to other levels for FIBUA (forget FIBUA village set up, real war has so much debris that cannot have any clear line of fire more than 5m.
Like said is earlier post - motion detector more useful than new ambush alarms (you's understand if you seen them) -

Some are meant to be there till some one got 'lucky' and some will be remove or disarm by the one place it.
Just want know; so SAF is not teaching the masses on booby trap. hmmm i think i cross the line again...

Hand grenades are fantastic for making cheap booby traps quickly that can be impossible to safely defuse.
I'm sure you all know about the trip wire booby trap that's basically a primed grenade (safety pin removed) and placed inside a tin can that's fits the grenade just snug enough to hold the lever in place? The wire is usually hidden in the grass so it is impossible to see. When you kick the wire the grenade is pulled out of the can and the lever drops away and the grenade explodes after a few seconds.
Only US-style grenades can be used and the Chinese stick grenades are not very practicable for booby-trap usage.
But there are other cheaper and faster ways to deploy the grenade as a booby trap made popular by the Vietcong.
Effective booby-trapping is not only dependent on placement but also on timing. Booby traps placed too randomly for too long is both a waste and a danger to civi or your own forces.
One of the best time to put a booby-trap is when you are trying to cover your retreat. It has a higher chance of causing enemy casualties or at least slow down their pursuit of you.
But when retreating you only have time to make very quick simple booby traps.
So if you already have grenade-in-a-can traps set along the pre-designated path of your retreat, all you need to do is to go to each one and prime (remove safety pin) the grenades and slide them back into the cans.
Another thing VC would usually do after retreating is intended for the enemy moving in to occupy your territory. One popular thing is to booby trap fallen comrades by simply putting a primed grenade under their dead bodies. Or simply placed under anything that the Americans would lift up to examine etc. It could be under a box, a radio or anything.
In a rubble strewn area you can simply place it under one end of a plank or anything that will easily shift when disturbed so that the primed grenade rolls out and explode. The grenade in a can can be easily applied to doors and windows. A bit of imagination goes a long way.
My all-time favourite booby-trap is the one the Israelis made from a mobile phone. This is early days so the mobile phone is probably the brick-sized ones. They placed a small explosive in it and Mossad managed somehow to pass it on to their intended terrrorist target.
Once he got it the Israelis called to confirm if the person on the other line is indeed the terrorist himself. Once confirmed they detonated the explosive remotely.
They even video-taped the whole thing from below the apartment where the terrorist was hiding. From the tape we saw a bright flash and a bang behind the drawn blinds. -

Unlike mines where the geneva convention said that we need to have a fence + sign to let enemy know that it's mined, booby traps don't.
