The guy was a corporal (old rank system), which surprised me then cuz in Arty only officers had the authority to order fire.
Wonder if today's SIR units still have mortar platoons, or are they consigned to Guards outfits ....
More like Mortar Forward Caller, that is for the 81mm Mortar Platoon NCOs. They act as the mortar forward obsevrer to direct the fire on the disired target...
Now using the 120mm mortars, MFC is not required anymore as the FOs are already attached to the rifle coy liao
