122mm BM-21 = 32.7 km
220mm Uragan =35 km
300mm Smerch = 70 km
300mm ASTROS =90 km -

I'm sure after his two yrs of NS, his ideas would change. Battles are not fought on paper, and based on who has more fire power on paper. A good plan by a good leader with average to mediocre troops definitely has a better fighting chance than a poor leader with bad plans and superior troops. History will atest to that.
Just a little advice, if ur still in NCC, though u might THINK u know a lot, try not to present urself in such a proud manner. There are many of us here who have served and seen a lot, and from different persepectives. Paper war and real ops are very different. Just because someone has the equipment doesn't mean they know how to utilise it to its optimum result. Maintenance and spares are another factor nobody ever puts on paper. -

I didn't read all the previous posts on this thread so I don't know what the story is so far.
But here's my armchair general's 2 cents : )
SAF definitely has the capability to launch amphibious assaults, but exactly what scale I don't pretend to know.
But SAF is prepared for amphibious operations and most of us in infantry would've done at least a little training in it.
And amphibious operations will definitely be used by either sides if Malaysia and Singapore comes to blow. That's why in PDF we actively conduct excercises in coastal defence.
Singapore will definitely do amphibious assaults as Malaysia is a peninsula with a long coastline and they do not have enough troops to defend the every inch of it. So amphibious assault is a good option.
When we say amphibious operations don't think of D-Day or Guadalcanal as those were major assaults.
Singapore will use amphibious assaults probably as a flanking move. If intel points out a undefended coastline suitable for landing that will be where a secondary or diversionary or flanking assault would take place.
For example if we are fighting them across the causeway - whomever is invading whom - we can use coastal hooks to flank their main force and force them to divert troops. This would disrupt their rear or cut off their supply lines etc. You can imagine all the scenarios where this would be useful.
Amphibious assaults have often been successful as coastlines are usually too long to be completely defended. But for Singapore someone pointed out correctly we do not have the capability of making this the main thrust.
Airborne is not an option for main thrust as we all know very well how precious few airborne troopers we have. And big scale airborne ops are more costly and have an even smaller chance of success than big scale amphibious ops. Look at WW2 for examples.
In airborne ops it is more difficult to ferry in heavy equipment like tanks and arty as the equipment, ammo (for arty) and crew are dropped separately. (My guess-ti-mation.) After dropping the crew would have to find their tank and if they don't find it in time all is lost.
Whereas if an LST successfully lands a tank on the beach it is immediately able to fight its own way up.
This aside, apparently Malaysia has a much larger airborne capability than we do, according to some sources. But if our air-defences are still intact we'll slaughter them even before cross the Johore Straits. -
Staying in Gombak is definitely ok, however by stating u're next to SAF HQ, u are inferring that u have links or ties or understadings or some sort. If u weren't trying to infer that, then why bring it up? Regarding amphibious assault...
1. Tensions has to come first..
2. Secret mobilization....
3. Scrambling of air force to defend the skies
4. Alot of communications..
Alot of stuffs has to be happen in order for amphibious assault to happen...
The above will happen only IF...we strike first..
If they strike first.. with ASTROS and 18 SU-30 in the sky...on our landing strips...
We will lose alot..especially we need 4 hours to repair..
4 hours is enough for them to return home..come back and re-arm..
Guess E2-C hawkeye have to work everyday =/

rather i would use jernas + astros and fire ..to protect it from APACHES..

You all might say there's a E2-C Hawkeye....do you all know that there's a vulnerability with the E-2C hawkeye? ...
To counter it, i would use a civilian disguised 747 and fire a soviet missile at it..so the base wouldn't be alerted..
Do note that apache is very vulnerable to air-air engagements..
and RPG..
So if the above malaysian strategies happen , just like WWII when japan initially bombed singapore..
Then the only option left would be the army..the decisive factor..
so i would use the chinook and airlift the LSV inside to kill the ASTROS
(of course not within the range of JERNAS)
How would i do it?? i will use the amphibious bionic IFV to counter the commandos ..
Within the 10km perimeter..i will use the IFV..but must be prepared for a fight..
The apaches i would send them to counter the commandos as well..
with the commandos gone..
I will equip my guards with matador..and attack the jernas and secure the astros..and point it back at them..
With the initial destruction of PVs and stealth ships..
Repair the TAB and SBAB.. use the F-16 with harpoons to attack the enemy navy..
With the NGF...we strike some key areas.. -

EVERY helicopter is vulnerable to air-to-air engagements. last i saw, the Apache could be outfitted with Stinger, and Hinds with AT-6s. Both are good to shoot down other helos, but not against a radar guided missile.

Dunno why people go through so much of tertiary education, go through so many courses, and rotate through so many appointments in the army and armed services. Can just rely on NCC cadet to lead the way in AOP and Ops Orders right? The idea of Primus is SP or self propelled. Mobility being the catch word, meaning it doesn't matter where they are based now, but where they will be when deployed. And for how long they will be there.
Again we are brought back to a paper war, with no reflection on how real ops is conducted. -

No, its sitting in the easy chair in front of the computer, click-dragging whole battalions of tanks, infantry, and sending them against the enemy. When the unit is annihilated, never mind, the barracks has about 5 other units in training or in production.

Can you tell us what is the main difference between Fh2000 and Fh88?

For instance, right next to MINDEF is an Infantry Regiment. I wonder why.
Further more, PRIMUS is so ungodly large that the existing facilities in Khatib camp wouldnt have accomodated them nicely. Or comfortably, if you prefer.

hey stupid... i can still blow the crap out of those astros safely even if you surround them with 1 million JERNAS or whatever SHORAD or VSHORAD you have in your underwears.... since RSAF got LONGSHOT with a range of nearly 100km... but then again... a maverick missile with a range of 27km would do just as well, since the planes would remain beyond the reach of your SAMs.
but then again... maybe we might wanna try STORMSHADOW, SLAMER or watever SOW we getting with the NGF, but then again... astros arent really such valuble targets for us to waste such good missiles on.
perhaps the local firefly which is currently under development could be used instead if ST can mass produce them cheap like firecrackers.
but all the above are wasteful, we will just use the A-4 with maverick, and leave the falcons for other more important jobs. -
