Insignias are important. You wear them on the webbing. Since they 'accompany' you, should have some blessing powers .. haha
Maybe your brigade insignia also not auspicious .. that's why. -

10 Mono CO was SOF chief last time, the RSM also red beret, my company's CSM Navy Seal, dunno still got who. Not surprised they could win Best Infantry. -

I was there for the 5 SIR ATEC in 2001 and the 3 SIR ATEC in SWBTA in 2001 and many other ATECs..
5 SIR : The reason for the failure is due to the fact that the RED force 5 SIR is fighting was in fact our RED berets.. not the normal aggressor coy.. that explain for the rearrangement and the tapping of coy comms..they knew where and when the blue forces were coming from... That ATEC i was an empire.. not fighting... and i saw the way 5 SIR was "grilled" like a sambal "hung he".. sad.... they suai.. fightiing the Red Berets rather than the usual aggressor red force...
3SIR : They were quite good, 1 of the better units ard.. their ATEC ( 2001 ) was the last of 4 ATECs which the aggressor coy fought during the 38 days dusty stay in SWBTA.... was exhausted by the time aggressor coy fought 3 sir atec... but by no means they ( 3 sir ) were easy... had a good fight with 3 sir... -

Guys, Guys, Guys, ATEC perfomance is seldom based on the man, most of it is on the CO, S1, S2, S3 and S4.
Your Company officers also play and important part.
Also know that RED forces always know where you are coming from. It's your luck whether they want to trash you or not.
In my time, 4 SIR had it so bad. When the scouts landed at Seremboon( forgot how to spell), the wall at the beach head was high, they were stuck at the shore, then someone from on top offer to help pull them up.
When they got up, It was the RED forces that help them!
The battalion landed blind. to make matters worst, CRT markings were re routed by the enemy to go in one big circle.
4 SIR loss 3 hours doing just that, one big circle. They faild the test and had to do ATEC in Brunei! By then, everybody was so f***king sian.
So, its just your luck.

Glad to hear that 3 SIR had been maintaining such a strong reputation all these years. Maybe that is why they were chosen for this Project. Still remember that time after we finished our Scout Course and returned back to unit, almost fainted when the "siao on" S2 announced that he had planned a special 3 SIR "Long Walk" for us where we have to Topo from the Jewish Cemetery in LCK all the way back to Bedok Camp (is 3 SIR still there?) Then there is this "SOTONG" Team Commander who tried to cheat by taking a cab from one check point to another. but he read the map wrongly and drop off at the wrong place and walked a longer distance in the end.

fighting in swbta sounds like a good idea... don't have that many hills or mountains to wear you down leh.

3 sir has always been the stronger infantry unit.glad to have serve in it.n happy to hear tt its still going strong

P.s:It's hell in 3rd SIR training,thinking back even 3rd guards sometimes more eng then us,but i got to admit there were some really funny days during atec... -
Many years. Was participated in the 86SIR ATEC, which in turn was the 1st reservist unit got the taste. During the exercise, an Israeli advisor was followed through out all the way. RED force, who else is our red beret.
Red force does know the blue force where & when coming but this is not the point as it should be part of the game. In short, blue force screw all the way up: -
· Support PL force mary up point & timing is arty register point & same time as well. Kill by friendly force & no heavy weapon support for block force.
· Scout & sniper all captured by Red force before the main body could move in. It so realistic that empire had to come in to prevent fighting between Red & Blue force.
· Main body attached objective without intelligent infro. How to pass?
· CO talking cock thru the signal set to himself to stimulate sound battle situation.
· Point Coy was cut off in between & flanked by the Red force, OC was lost, don’t know how to react!. Technically it should be totally wipe up.
· Best part, don’t know who the hell made such a decision, during movement contact contacted red force without access situation & terrain, whole company react ambush drill charge BUT it is a very steep slope, walk also got problem, how to charge?
Lucky that not in infantry. -

i'm from 9th mono 3 SIR scout platoon, long time forum visitor, first time poster, lots of interesting topics to read. it has kept me busy during my free time. currently studying overseas, so this has sort of comforted me when i was homesick. lots of memories too, when reading this thread, was a sgt in 3SIR, fresh from BSLC, we were with the company even b4 the main intake came in, there was no slack given to us from day one, for our jeep course we had to stay in camp for the duration, even though it was a stay out course, courtesy of our tough but always fair, and a bit nuts OC.
we had all the usual scout training except the Combat Survival Course, all thanks to our NDP commitment and the terrorist situation in America. it was really a team effort back in ATEC, from the corporals to our officer...with the exception of the S2...who i will not bad-mouth cos he cannot rebutt if i did....and thats not fair, those readers out there who are 9th mono scts will know.
as a platoon we all had our ups and downs, there were some times. i just didnt want to carry on anymore and i bitched about being a NS person with low pay and all that, but looking back, we did things and went places few would have gone, we suffered and were treated like dogs, but this was balanced by the cool things we did and saw (though 'cool' would probably be subjective here) and by the reputation we have earned from what we did in ATEC
so i wanna thank my platoon, and even those brothers from the other coys that took part in the ATEC, good job, great memories, that will be something that i will have to reminisce when old.
and its nice to know that the other present intakes of 3SIR are doing well! -
