Wah, slightly higher allowance, 2 year NSF, now 5 day week. You all are really lucky.

but if trainee also follow 5 day week. the training scheldue will be extremely pack. imagine every trainnee package in SAF are going to reduce their training program due to the 2 yrs NS servicing period. Now with the 5 day week thing.. the training program will be even more tighter! u win some.. u lose some too.

True true, it will be real packed, so they must be prepared for some tough times. Take say for example, coming back from night range late on friday night, lotsa things to do, admin, etc... Somemore things to consider, some ranges in order to accomodate the 5 day week, cannot be held on saturday or sunday, seriously needs alot of planning done beforehand. -
How does it work? They say total working hours remain the same. Does it mean 8 to 6 instead of 8 to 5 every weekday?

A five day work week need not be Mon-Fri.Some may have to resort to Tues-Sat in order to not cause any bottlenecks along the line.

are NSF salaried civil servants in govt employment?
do NSF work for only 8 hours per day or 42 hours per week according to labour laws?
if the answer for the above 2 are no... then on what ground can NSF demand for 5 day work week? -

anyway how much hurry hurry wait. heavy heavy no use. time has been wasted so much becos of cock up in army admin. -

i been reporting to office at 7:30am and release at 5:30pm/6pm. already kena bullied like shit back den. but i admit i did nothing much except arrowed saikangs every days lah! -

SAF is exempt under the SAF act to follow civil service guidelines etc. If necessary I anticipate training will be trimmed but standards to remain which means more accidents as everyone rushes to close shop etc.Originally posted by Arena:think it wont happen in saf.. especially navy
Most inefficencies are due to administrative or planning foul ups (no insult to the professionals), just anything large will move to the pace of the slowest/stoopidest. Will not be reduced just bcos LHL declare 5 day week.
Also armed forces is still a 24x7 organization. civil service change to 9hr x 5 day work week dosen't translate as range can close on Saturdays or no duty or standbys (dream on if you still think possible).
FACT : December 7, 1941 was a Sunday and 1973 arab-israeli attack was launched on Public Holi (Yom Kuppur, jewish holiest festival) is a lesson never forgotten by SAF. -
i dun think the whole of SAF camps can have LWE the same time lor...need to rotate shifts and some have their offs on weekdays...

I'm keeping an open mind on this. Until, at the very least, how Teo Chee Hean clarifies the SAF's plans on this. Unless I'm wrong, PM Lee did allude (offhand or not) to schools & the military when he announce the new 5-day civil service policy, but today Tharman Shanmugaratnam was quoted as saying there's no countdown timing at MOE.
The Defence Minister may be just as "reluctant"; a 5-day workwork certainly wasn't proclaimed as part of the 3G Army makeover earlier in the year.
