nowadays the university modules and system are getting heavier.
I finished my NS 1st then go to U.
If i had disrupted for 6 months, my U life maybe better cos less modules to take.
So, in that sense, it is good to go U 1st then NS.
NS duration is not likely to cut to less than 2 years, so... whether serve NS 1st or after U, the duration is the same. -
Deferment or disruption? You can defer NS if your studies won't be completed in time for the normal enlistment date, but I thought disruption for further studies isn't permitted until you've completed 2 years of service (old format)?
Do NS 1st. I myself was conscripted one year "later" (Pre-U center for A Levels) than my cohorts & I already felt then about being "overaged." The idea of doing BMT or guard duty at age 22 or older - when my peers have moved on with their civilian lives - man, that's depressing. -
i would prefer to go uni first, after ns i could not study liao, maybe a case of shagged cannot think.

Same here.I was also from a Pre-U center.1983...Gee..Most of my friends have ORDed, save for those in La Salle and the Polys.When I enlisted, I was one month shy of my 20th birthday, and I'll ORD aged 22.If I had gone overseas for studies , I would have enlisted at the age of 24.And I'll definitely not be in OCS due to my PES status.So..a 24-25 year old Uni grad stuck as a Supply Asst, or any menial vocation, would really stink.Originally posted by Moxie:Deferment or disruption? If you really have a choice, study first, you will get alot of brainwashing during NS. Good or bad, you will loose your 'Studying Momentum'.

NS 1st...why leh ? cos just think that when u are in the final yr, u will get job offers (provided ur grades are not very jialat)...so if u haven't serve NS, u must turn down ALL, i repeat, ALL and i repeat again ALL the offers. u think they will remember u or offer u a job again after 2 yrs ? i dun think so.
university syllabus (at least for NTU) keep changing for the past 3 yrs....so if u try to pit urself against other people who graduated 2 yrs after u, u will lose out, dats for sure. if u serve NS 1st, u can just go work right after u finish Uni, or if u disrupt, u only have to serve for a few weeks and then go to work, u could use the few weeks to find jobs (a short holiday) and such if u didn't have job offers prior to graduating. if u go Uni 1st then NS, u can't do all the above...just think. -

During my time, i had 9 modules in my 1st sem in uni... Try beating that...
I dun noe whats it like to have less than 7 in any sem...

Go NS first is better so in Uni you don't need to worry about NS...

I did my NS first and then went overseas to uni.
A few advantages... you are more able to look after yourself in every sense of the word. Cooking, washing, cleaning, organising your daily life (no family to help you). Plus, assuming you were in some combat vocation, you know how to defend yourself, assess your own security in an unfamiliar environment etc etc.
One more added benefit, you are going to be among the older students, in a foreigh university (altho' I have met Isrealis, Spanish and French students who did their own country's national service programme). THat means you are of the right age to "pull" ang-moh girls who are going to be 17 or 18 years old, compared to your 20 or 21 !!! -
