  I agree with you, however sheer luck and skills aside, you still have to consider technology. Lets be very clear here that the SU-30MK(?) ceteris paribus, have a greater advantage over our fighters and we cannot let that happen.

  Sheer luck may win you the lottery. it cannot win a war or avoid losing the crown jewels.
  
  Technology can:
  - make you blind (Falklands War, anti-missle system cannot lock on incoming A-4),
  - tail heavy (US army now wants to reduce some 1:4 warrior/backroom boys ratio), or worst
  - firepower dependent (Vietnam war rounds fired to hit ratio, study estimated some 250 rounds to 1 hit).
  
  I taught BMT during active and a firm believer that the USMC war-fighting methods are the correct focus on 'warrior skills', technology needs the bayonet to back up the batteries.
