Possibility of Fitting Mistral to Top of A MBT

Fitting Mistral on top of a MBT is technically not a problem however tactically, it may not be a good idea. The main role of MBT in the battlefield is to provide firesupport for the other friendly elements and basically that is to neutralise the enemy's fire. It will be too much work for the tankees if they will to provide firesupport and at the same time deal with air threats, thus tactically i dont see a need for the Mistral system to be fitted on a MBT.
If the armour columm require air defense, it can be provided in different levels such as divisional AD Singapore is currently practising. Anti-aircraft weapons will not be mount on MBTs as i said it is tactically unwise to do so but it is mounted on delicated vehicles such as the V-200. A number of V-200 AD vehicles will be supported by a P-Star radar mounted on another vehicle and a number of unit of V-200 AD vehicles will provide air cover for the division. It is reported that they did experimentally mount Igla missiles on M-113 or similar plateforms, well to be frank, i dont know the result but it could be a possible solution. -

Reminds me of the Red Alert II mammoth tanks
if M'sia decides to mod their PT-91 tanks with igla or stinger, will it pose a threat to our apaches?
and btw do u have any information about air to air combat by helicopters?

The effect of a Igla on a MBT will be negligible.if M'sia decides to mod their PT-91 tanks with igla or stinger, will it pose a threat to our apaches?
I doubt our Malaysian friends will mount Igla or even their Javalin missile on their PT-91, as i had said, it is tactically unwise for them to do so.
However if they choose to mount it on other vehicles, yes it is a threat to our Apaches perhaps as much as our Apaches is a threat to them.and btw do u have any information about air to air combat by helicopters?

According to some site,the LAHAT that could be fired from 105/120 tank guns has two functions, anti-Tank and anti-helicopter capability.
So in way , a MBT with some SAM capability.

He's using his Red Alert mentality again lah. MBT with mistral on top. Obviously influenced by Red Alert's Mammoth tanks with mammoth tusk SAMs.

well..speaking seriously...equipping MBTs with mistrals is possible..but not really useful. The role of the MBT is not one that is anti-air, and firing of the mistral (should there be any need to) would take up too much of the crew's attention that would be needed to perform other tasks...air defence for armored formations would already have been provided by the V-200s and the likeOriginally posted by SibeiSuayKia:going crazy liao.....
