Singapore should send troops overseas to fight battles

Well like what Malaysia army did in Somalia earned some exp, at least we have some battle-hardened veterans in our army and most importantly we need a SAF hero to learn and believe in for SAF's men to fight in future conflicts
how bout Libya, we can overthrow their Colonel Qadaffi and liberted their pple from the madness of this dicator, I noe they hav WMD -

We should only send troops only when it was in Singapore's interest....
Also who should we send?? NSFs??? or NSmen???
How to explain to the family member's when these people come back with lost limbs or pyschological damage. -
There are regulars who take part in UN oversea missions.

Gaining combat experience is a good thing, but it must follow in line with our primary mission. As our military is largely made up of NSFs and NSmen, the government needs a solid reason to justify why they are sending the military into combat, especially overseas combat.
Our military has already participated in overseas UN missions as a responsible member of the world, and these are actually good avenues for accumulating combat experiences. It may not be close to the real thing, but at least it gives our military personnel the opportunity to learn to function as a unit under a uncertain climate.
We already have some SAF heros, if you look hard enough.

Anyway seriously speaking Singapore should have take part in every UN-sponsered peacekeeping missions as much as they could not in just execises cos I read the book on Defending Singapore the Lion City the author actually doubted the ability and the morale of SAF troops when facing against battle-hardened and relatively well-equipped enemies

1. Currently no budget airlines is going to Libya as I know.
2. Budget airlines don't ferry heavy equipments like tanks and artillery, you still need specialized equipments to ferry them over, like C-130. Or do you intend to over-run the country with infantry only?
3. You think such a mass deployment of men and equipment would go un-noticed by any country? They will probably just shot down the airplanes with all our men on it, and the invasion would be over before it even began.
Wait till you go into the military, you see. Deployment of men and equipments don't just happen at a snap, meticulous planning is required and that's very time-consuming. It's not like C&C where you can move/attack/defend with just a click of the mouse.
Lastly, the Rambo-type hero you are looking for only exists in the movies. Chionging alone into enemy lines gets you killed 99.99% of the time in the real world, unless you are so damn incredibly lucky that every bullet shot at you missed, or you are invisible and the enemy can't see you in the first place.

Singapore should only send troops within the UN peacekeeping framework... other than that we might be giving other countries the wrong signals... always remember that the singapore govt is always moderate and rational in its approach.
anyway why waste money for nothing when the money could be put to better national policies that benefit us and improve the economy...
all things said... who are we to talk all this crap when the people who suffers on this mission is not us ? -

Send troops to places to fight and die is not a good policy ! Dead men cannot learn any more. You don't send people to die so that you can learn. There is enough wars and battle fought for us to learn from.
You relative of Bush is it, you want to fight everyone who you don't like, and you will just claim that they have WMD ! How you know Colonel Qadaffi have WMD ? You seen it with your own eyes or you think you hear it from CIA .... of course show that what they say about Iraq WMD ....

Try spending a saturday night just being part of an ambush against some imaginary enemy in Lim Chu Kang or moving with heavy fieldpacks for kilometers before attacking a useless objective filled with trees and other obstacles soaking wet because of the rain. I spent 3 years doing this and i still feel i havent learnt enough to go to actual combat. You think its worth sending our boys to some fight overseas jut for the sake of "combat experience". Are you willing to so? Oh i forgot.. you havent even learnt how to even draw arms yet. so in the meanwhile dont bother us with your bull and go back and play counterstrike and rainbow six till the shock of being a conscripted soldier with low pay hits you in mths/years time
