Remember, we will never know the EXACT stuff 'cos no armed forces are dumb enough to reveal it. Even what Tim Huxley listed about SAF is not 100% accurate.

I know the exact amount of A4-SU & F-16...and the amount of F-5 fighters we got..don't need to worry about them..
aniwae..something like Iraq v Kuwait war..could happen anytime..just like during 1990...kuwaiti soldiers couldn't mobilize in time..the A-4 fighter jets kuwait is using..got shot down..
My only worry is of a combined assault..indonesia has 116 patrol boats..
RSAF may need to dig into reserves to boost spending soon..
or build a airstrip at southern islands..then every morning airlift pilots around to the southern airbase..doesn't really look good..
The amount of ships they got is HUGE though..
more then 60 boats..o.O
i wonder how many of these are built for real combat..
But im really pondering how can our SAF get to the water supply area in just a few days..
Even in Gulf War, rapid troop advancement is crucial..
We got food supplies to last for probably a few years..
to get thru these amount of hardware and equipment..
need alot alot alot of sorties..
I suppose singapore has nukes now btw..given the extremely close relationship btw our good fren , Israel
cause virtually it's impossible to crush a whole country's armed forces in days to get water..furthermore, they have over a few hundred.. -

From this report as of May 2004, MY has only three batteries of six ASTROS II launchers, i.e. 18 ASTROS II launchers .
The army has taken delivery of 28 South African Denel 155mm/45-cal G5 Mk 3 towed artillery systems plus ammunition, including projectiles, charges and fuzes.
These are used in conjunction with an African Defence Systems AS2000 computerised fire-control system. The prime movers for the G5s are German MAN 6x6 cross-country trucks that have been modified by local company DEFTECH for their specialist role.
The service has yet to decide whether to buy more towed weapons and/or self-propelled howitzers (SPHs). Until the G5s were delivered, the largest-calibre artillery systems in Malaysian service were 12 155mm FH-70s supplied in the early 1980s by RO Defence. BAE Systems, RO Defence, has had an agreement for some years with Malaysisn Naval Dockyard for the local assembly and eventual production of the 105mm L119 Light Gun. However, industry sources said that this project is not likely to proceed in the short term as the army focuses on 155mm artillery.
Denel could supply additional 65 Mk 3s or the more recent 155mm/52-cal system. The company is still marketing the 155mm G6 SPH but with a combat weight of 47 tonnes, this may be too heavy for the army's retirement.
A possible alternative is the more recent Denel T5, which mates the upper part of the standard G5/45-cal ordnance with an 8 * 8 cross-country chassis. Using a 155mm Base-bleed projectile, a maximum range of 39km can be achieved, which increases to 54km with the recently introduced Velocity-enhanced Long-range Artillery Projectile (V-LAP). The first T5 system was installed on a Tatra 8x8 chassis. It could, however, be fitted to a variety of other cross-country plat-forms, according to Denel. For trials purposes, the chassis has been fitted with the upper part of the latest G5 155mm/52. This is called the T5-52 and a total of 22 projectiles and charges are carried.
During the Defence Services Asia 2004 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur in April, South Korea's Samsung Techwin displayed its 155mm/52-cal K9 Thunder SPH. The K9 Thunder is staying in Malaysia for trials and demonstraÂtion purposes before returning to Korea.
It is understood that more than 100 K9s have been built for the Republic of Korea Army and for Turkey. Turkish weapons, given the local name of Firtina are assembled at facilities of the Turkish Land Forces Command. The weapon has also been tested in Spain.
Malaysia has taken delivery of three batches of Brazilian ASTROSII multiple rocket systems and a regiment is now fully operational with three batteries, each with six ASTROS II launchers (JDW 16 January 2002). The army has also received a quantity of Avibras AV - VBL (Viaturas Blindadas Leves) 4 x4 light armoured vehicles. These are to be used in specialised roles within the ASTROS II regiment.

Perhaps from the June issue of Perajurit, pg 37. It stated that " Official defence information tells an additional of 18 units Astross II to make it 36 is still 'in process' with big possibility to materialize on the year 2005"
( Not official, only a rumour, but it stated that MY has only 18 A2 at the moment)
So from Janes & Perajurit, MY has only 18 A2 at this moment, now it has been inflated to 36 & 18 more coming!!!!

Why ? that blood sucker will drain them of all money and manpower, think about billions is being use on building just one ship, then everyday million dollar need to dump into it.
Next that fat cow, will tied up 1/2 the navy fleet protecting it, leaving their whole coast open. Also that aircraft on the carrier will be harriers or something close, which have limit range, more suitable for close air support. They spend money on them, then no money on something better.

So he was actually refering to something like a LSD/LPD kind of ship with helo hanger etc.
So if that 's the case. RSN has now 4 "a/c carriers" in operation, two decommissioned, 3 scrapped and one sold "a/c carriers"!!! -

their govt aren't even able to generate enough funds to meet their annual expenses.... this means any future defence spending increase would be near impossible! unless they wanna go deep into the red like phillipine
and there is more dark readings if you take a look at their expenditure for 2005....a massive 11.3percent of their total expenses is for debt servicing!!

Secondly, the M'sian CDF never said he was getting a carrier. He said M'sia would need a support ship which IF NEEDED could also serve as a mini carrier.
And please lah, stop belittling the SAF. We may not be half as potent as the US armed forces, but we ain't exactly useless either. So stop all your rubbish about what if Indonesia attack us with their ships, and what if Kopassus attack & all that.
If such a day does arrive, we will defend S'pore to the best of our ability. Simple as that. And it doesn't help to have ppl like you around questioning the ability of the SAF. Ppl like you who have not even served one hour of NS I might add. -

"The Malaysian Armed Forces wants to buy early-warning aircraft and a multi-role support ship to be used as a floating command centre. The aircraft he wants are equipped with an early-warning defence system and detection capabilities which are faster and more accurate than ground radar. The support ship, besides being a command centre, can also function as an aircraft carrier. "
The big clue was "support ship" . What he is saying is a he want something like our LSD ( which we use for support role) with landing pad for heli (aircraft). Or a more delicated supply ship which usually also have landpad. The aircraft he refer to is a helicopter which can be mounted with early warning radar to give further over the horizon coverage, thus in his words it does function as an aircraft carrier.
