You got that right, Sir.
Try explaining to them that a sniper, given enough time, and a level field with which to play with them, the commandoes can do little.
Especially with an anti-material rifle.
You ever did fire one of those anywhere?
just a sidenote, if the breech is made of C4, shooting it with a rifle won't cause it to explode ...Originally posted by crosshairs:The breech is not made of C4. It won't blow.
Just as with other explosives, you need to apply some energy to C-4 to kick off the chemical reaction. Because of the stabilizer elements, it takes a considerable shock to set off this reaction; lighting the C-4 with a match will just make it burn slowly, like a piece of wood (in Vietnam, soldiers actually burned C-4 as an improvised cooking fire). Even shooting the explosive with a rifle won't trigger the reaction. Only a detonator, or blasting cap will do the job properly.from http://people.howstuffworks.com/c-4.htm
Hmm......don't think I can say anything about that cos I really don't have the figures.Originally posted by le cruz:Hi guys,
i'm really intrigued by this sniper stuff. quite interesting eh, the way they operate.
Just wanted to ask, how are would-be snipers vocationalists selected in the SAF?
some got wear spects but degree must be low, i think below 200 ? no colour blindness, no night blindness. in SAF, Guards and cdo got snipers.Originally posted by crosshairs:Hmm......don't think I can say anything about that cos I really don't have the figures.
6/6 vision without aids, right master eye.
in a movie also got this scene, think the producer port it from hathcock's history.Originally posted by 12qwaszx:read that hathcock guy biography before.
if i remembered correctly, he nearly got sniped once.
in the end, he put his round into the vietcong's scope![]()
go sispec, post out of bslc, filled up a preferred vocation form, and if you meet their criteria, go SIW.Originally posted by le cruz:Hi guys,

Well not really needed to be HK MSG90. The advantage of MSG90 is that it is automatic and more rounds.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Hey,can anyone share what a sniper team does when they do a harrasment mission?During Army Open House this 3SG from Snipers told me that for this type of missions they are usually equipped with the MSG90.So can anyone share? What is the objective of harrasment missions and what is done to ensure the enemy is harrased?
Well if you are travelling with infantry company, when encounter suppressive fire from an MG post, the only thing you can do it to take cover first. After that as the someone is definity been pin down, you will have to find cover and try to move to a position which you can effective take out the MG to save the rest.Originally posted by crosshairs:Question: You are a sniper. he carry his brains, his skills, dats the most important thing, other than the rifle. sniper will avoid close combat cos he is on the losing end as he is outnumbered both in ammo (.45, 9mm, 5.56) and manpower.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Not right to that if you see a guy armed with a scoped-equipped weapon is a sniper. As on the normal infantry there is the section designated marksman. And now that SAF is gonna change to the SAR-21,the whole squad will be snipers?Nahz..that would be ignorant of the speciality of the Snipers.
Anyway, anyone have any idea what other weapon/s does the sniper arm himself with when out on a mission? As a bolt-action or a specialised semi-auto sniping rifle is both to long and heavy for upclose work.
for one thing it is at least 2- 3 kg lighter then a lot of the rest. 2-3 kg make a lot of different if you are running for it.Originally posted by crosshairs:The SSG69 is not that light.......
2430m ?!Originally posted by John Ching:Side track for a while, there was an article about a 26yr old Canadian sniper who killed a Taliban with a Mcmillan .50 cal rifle at a distance of 2,430m. This soldier broke the record that MGS Carlos made back in Vietnam. However, MGS Carlos used was a M2 with an attached scope. Which proves apoint that its the man & not the weapon that kills.![]()
from wat i know, he contributed to shooting training for other people, risked his life to save his friends etc...Originally posted by observe:what are the 'wild things' that Carlos Hathcock has done to deserve this much admiration from you guys ?
Afterall, 93 kills is not the top score for a sniper.
I read that a Finnish sniper called Simo Häyhä killed about 505. I beleive no one has managed to top that.
"Tasted" TNT before, or tested? I know TNT flakes look just like corn flakes - but no way am I tasting that stuff.Originally posted by crosshairs:Talking about C4, just curious.......anyone here tasted TNT before?
Maybe its your workwear that gives them the creeps....its hard to date someone who looks like the swamp thing......Originally posted by John Ching:BTW, snipers aren't really cold blooded or anti-social, they're just trying to suppress the horror that they have seen through the scope without pissing anyone off. Honestly, the civilise world doesn't think to highly of a sniper being able to kill from an extended range. Especially girls don't like the ideal of the guy they know, being able to kill another man with 1 shot. Strangely they prefer guys who kill another man up close & personal, eg Commandos, Special Forces, etc.
